Root [Root] One Click Root for Samsung Admire (SCH-R720) :: Windows/Mac/Linux :: 9/12/2011

OK so I got the phones "rooted" and with root explorer, it will allow me to delete the bloatware...but when I reboot the phone or change directories, they return. It appears that the \system\app folder will not allow me to change r/o,r/w permissions anymore; so upon rebooting, the apps never left. It actually lets me delete them, and when I leave the app directory, and return, they never deleted. Any ideas? I have a paid version of Titanium backup and same thing; I delete, it reboots and voilla! they are still there.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Update your Superuser app and reboot then see if it will allow you to "truly" delete your bloat:D

that is what I did?? I thought I did that?? I dont know what I am doing wrong?

1. downloaded drivers to my desktop (do I load these on my phone?)
2. clicked link, - then did what you said - Run the(adb/Application)
Run the (run/Windows Batch File) on my computer with my admire pluged in w/debugging on
3. then I get what I posted
Nothing happens?? I have superuser on phone as well as busybox & titanium backup.

usb is connected w/file transfer active

What ever you do
DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER you will turn the Admire into a paperweight I would try a hard reset boot the phone into it's stock rom manager and rest back to stock if that does not work and the phone is still with in the first 15 day's of ownership go ahead in install Rom Manager and brick the phone than take it back to MetroPCS and exchange for a new phone. next time you do this download a free copy of Titanium Backup and make a back up of the stuff you removing or better yet freeze the apps your wanting to remove first to make sure your not going to have problems without them
Good Luck

Yes this is true. I decided once I knew the apps were safe to remove, however, to keep metro's app store application instead of keeping them backed up on my SD card. So if I ever need to put them back on my phone they are available for free download using that app.

Did you extract the drivers from the zip file you downloaded and then install them on your pc? (This took about 30 minutes for me)

This is pretty much worthless. I got 2 new Admire's last night and did things to a T and it still doesn't root. Does ANYONE have an answer as to why everyone seems to be getting the "Error: Could not access the package manager. Is the system running?" error?
This seems to be my problem. I have tried with USB storage on, USB storage off, copying the files to the phone, running from there...running from my pc...I would try this doing a handstand if there were any hope that it would work. This is a brand new phone. There is nothing on it. Why doesn't this work? What am I doing wrong here? Is it possible that they "fixed" the exploit with newer firmware?
I have rooted about 20 phones in my lifetime and never have had this problem.
Any help is greatly appreciated and may help me from throwing these accross the room.
Thanks.

I no people have been saying in order to use the one click root your not suppose to have USB mass storage enabled but I have found that is the only way at least in my case to get the damn thing to work try enabling USB so your PC can see the SD card than run one click root also make sure you have USB debug turned on oh and the USB driver package must be the one they tell you to use not the one you get from Samsung for the admire

it wont install

Within the files for root there is an Superuser.apk..I did not use that but instead went to the market and searched for it..downloaded and installed it...opened it and updated it..reboot...see if that works for you and let me know:D

Uninstall Superuser.apk then run the .bat file again...

it keeps vibrating and I don't wanna mess up my phone, my mom would kill me...

EDIT: wait, what?

Run it down for me step by step what you have done please..
I too had the same problem of the phone not recognizing root until I went to the market and downloaded Superuser and updated it.
Don't worry we wont break it;):D

The Admire root instruction is weak(agreed)
If you are trying to get your Ascend done I will find the link to exactly what I did with it(same thing or the Admire)
Tech People..LOL..I am just an everyday guy(fulltime job..ect) Have just learned most of what I know by reading on here and trial and error;)

I removed all the Metro apps but then for some reason, don't ask me why, I decided I wanted the Metro Studio app back.
Yes, I hadn't backed them up cause I'm a genius.
So when I went online to the Metro app store, via PC, I figured out how to get them to text it to my phone.
It worked fine so if anyone needs any of the Metro cr-apps back, try that way if you were smart enough like me to NOT back up anything!
Cheers!

I was finally able to navigate to the SD drive on my phone. It literally was not showing up in fstab or mtab with USB storage turned on with the phone. Now that I can get to the drive I have extracted the archive once more to the root of the drive and ran the ./android_root.sh from that directory. What I get is "permission denied". Here is the terminal out put.

admire]$ ls
adb.linux adb.osx admire_root.sh su Superuser.apk
[brotherred@localhost admire]$ ./root.sh
bash: ./root.sh: No such file or directory
[brotherred@localhost admire]$ ./admire_root.sh
bash: ./admire_root.sh: Permission denied
[brotherred@localhost admire]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost admire]# ./admire_root.sh
bash: ./admire_root.sh: Permission denied
[root@localhost admire]#

What am I doing wrong?

One Click Root for SCH-R720

About

Welcome, Admirers! Without the headaches of the package blocking that got in the way on the Samsung Galaxy Indulge, the crew over at the #admire channel have successfully rooted your device.

Actually, @djrbliss (Dan Rosenberg, bliss in #admire) did. Almost all of the credit belongs to him - he discovered the exploit that gives us root, and wrote the Linux/Mac one-click script. Technical info on the exploit can be found here. Enjoy the fruits of his hard work!

How to Install

Your device must be in USB Debugging mode. To turn it on, go to Settings > Applications > Development and check the box.

Linux/Mac: Connect your device to your PC, unpack the archive, and run run.sh. You may need to chmod 755 run.sh.

Windows: Install the Samsung USB drivers (download), unpack the archive, and open run.bat.

These steps follow them exactly and you will have a rooted admire .. make sure you download superuser.apk prior to doing the root. It should take you 3-10 minutes depending on your computer skills and then download titanium pro to ensure you are rooted then things afterwards like link2sd & cache cleaner for root users. Let us know how it goes.
your links are not links there just typed in and how do you run dot whaty ever it is i've tried typing it and nada
