I agree with you, but like you finished that paragraph.. Only if the N1 is gonna be sold in-store. Remember, when the original N1 was announed by Google they said they would have a model that would work on Verizon's network. Verizon confirmed and said they would NOT carry it in store. Now, that was some time ago and definitely things could change. To be honest, I would like to see VZW carry both the Incredible and N1 in store. At the least I would like to be able to take my N1 to Verizon stores for question and service if need be, but I doubt Verizon will do that if they don't sell the phone in-store.
I am not sure if Verizon will advertise the N1 much. T-Mobile doesn't seem to market it at all really. I think Verizon will spend most of their marketing funds on the Incredible. Now if VZW ends up carrying the N1 in-store than that would obviously change. Either way, both phones should be pretty (dare I say incredible? Okay, that's lame) stellar. I hope they both launch this month. I have been able to upgrade since January and it's killing me, lol.

I think everyone should keep in mind that up until now, the ONLY thing that verizon has said about the N1 is that it will not be sold in stores, only through google (i'm trying to find the article at the moment). So with that said, the release of the N1 won't have a major impact on the release of the Incredible. I admit my previous idea that the Incredible will be released a week before the N1 doesn't make much business sense (I work in scientific research), but it might be safe to assume that the Incredible could be released after the N1, possibly even introduced at CTIA and released a short time after.
Think about it, Google said they are shaking up the cell industry with selling the N1 through their own web store...do you think they are really going to admit defeat after only 3 months with 1 device??

You are probably right. If they market both phones I think they would use the HTC sense to differentiate. That would be their big plug. HTC sense on the Incredible and the "unlocked option" of the N1.
Maybe there will be some cool, new feature on the Incredible that we don't know about yet that they will use too. I think I read somewhere (maybe in this thread. I haven't read all 43 pages

the Incredible can be sold to people who use twitter, facebook, etc because of the new friend stream and merging of contact information. The N1 can be sold to people who want power and complete control over customizing their phone.

I kinda have to agree. I just don't see it happening, unless Google is like *hit, we only sold 80k in a month. If we can get it in-store maybe we can double or triple that number. Either way, VZW just wants new 2 year contracts and people to upgrade 2 a new contract with a data plan (like I will be). If they don't have to worry about stocking a phone, training the employees, and servicing a phone, but can get the new contracts and users, they are going to sleep a little easier at night

This could be true. I don't think there's anyway Google thought the N1 would sell as badly as it did on T-Mobile, and if putting it in stores is gonna give people the option to have hands-on before buying, something some people absolutely need before making this big of purchase, they might just put them in VZW stores.
I think the younger the generation, the more likely they are to buy before try. The older people are, the more they are trained of the old B&M style of retail.
Sorry, if I sound agist, that's just my opinion.

On a side note (I'll prob. get yelled at for this in this thread lol), I think the next VZW commercial should have the Droid, N1, Incredible (once they are all released) in like a group together and like the iPhone by itself with the 3 droids almost like bullying or taunting the iPhone.
Have the iPhone like walking home from school (since its supposedly used in schools a lot and teachers like them a lot) and the 3 droids looking badass waiting for it. The iPhone could then not have coverage to call for help while the droids have full coverage. Show the maps above each phone. Then they could come up with some funny line. You guys can help me with that haha. I think it would showcase the masculine designs and lines of the droids (70 some % are male users right?) and how strong Verizon's network is. I think that would be funny. You could even do it as a series... Have the iPhone see them waiting and then an ! appears above the iphone and the commercial could say like "To be continued..."

I agree. However, I am 23.5 and I wanna try before I buy haha. Especially since this is my first smartphone. Even if VZW had a kiosk in store or something where you could test the phone and learn about its features and then place an order for it right there from the Kiosk and it'd ship to your home in like 2 days or 2-5 days or something. Anything in the store to help you with purchasing the phone. I feel like if you go in and ask about it once it's released and the employees are like, "Yeah it runs on our network. We don't sell it, service it, and aren't trained to handle your questions on it." (maybe not that cold) I'd be like wth, I don't want to buy this. You know what I mean?
If you are tech savvy and confident enough in you don't need to talk to anyone about it, it doesn't matter I guess. For me though, I usually like to ask questions and test it out real good. I'm that guy lol

My post was just a hypothetical based on a conversation I had with a Verizon rep (post #2027). It would make sense for Google to switch cause as you said, T-Mobile doesnt really market it and I think there are plenty of approaches that VZW could take in marketing both the Incredible and the N1. I'm not sure what would be achieved by Intra-carrier competition though, especially if both phones are on at a similar price point.
It basically comes down to the N1 being a powerful phone that Google unsuccessfully marketed and now it could reach out to large carriers (VZW and AT&T) for help. A prudent strategy should it be adopted.

So, basically, I think you HAVE to have these phones in a store on a shelf. People love picking up a phone and messing with it. I buy a lot of things online, but when it comes to a phone, I want to be able to pick it up and demo it for a few minutes.
I agree that Google is usually willing to take the slow road with various technologies .. but I think some of the the negative press on what is basically a VERY nice phone does probably not sit well with Google. I think the answer is simply getting the N1 into VZW stores. Problem solved.
So, hopefully they change their tactic.

Here is the entire floor with all the major carriers highlighted with their respective colors. (Verizon - Red, HTC - Green, Sprint - Yellow, TMobile - Blue) Interestingly T-mobile looks to be in a closet sized booth off to the left. Verizon's booth is more inline with AT&T and Sprint. So you are right about OEM manufacturers being showcased here. HTC's booth is in green.

Someone mentioned there are no HTC or VZW Keynote speakers and i did notice that as well. And certainly, they wouldnt be making any "Announcements" from their respective booths. However, it doesnt mean that the "launch" of the phone still cant be at the CTIA, just a more subdued one in the fashion that they might just have the N1/Incredible at their booths to show off. No, they're not RIGHT next to each other but, relative to the size of the expo, they are very close.
Regardless, I can't imagine they would let an opportunity to display their new phone(s) and technology at probably the hottest US based cell phone conference so far this year at the EXACT day that the rumored release date is.
Bottom line is, IMO, we'll be waiting until March 23rd to "officially" see the N1/Incredible from HTC/Verizon. However, we'll have PLENTY of tester reviews, unoficial specs, rumors and the like to chew on until then.
As far as the N1/Incredible choice goes for me..well, if i can't use my annual upgrade to get the N1, then i'm going Incredible.. It's that simple.
I hope we have choices but i agree with the poster that said Google will NOT bail out on their mantra that they are giving people freedom from the carriers.. just 3 months later. It's what their entire phone division is based on.

"Hey you, get the N1, you wont get any support from us, OR, get the Incredible, same thing but you're all set".. i dunno.

FWIW...I noticed that Best Buy has offered pre-ordering for mobile phones sometimes 2-3 weeks in advance of the actual launch of the device, so I called a couple of the local Best Buys in my area to see if they had received any word on pre-ordering for the HTC Incredible. Both stores didn't hesitate when the Incredible was mentioned, but did say that there was nothing in their system at this time.

I, for one, have my heart set on the Incredible. I'm a staunch believer in the awesomeness of HTC. My XV6900 (Touch) was still a great phone, despite VZW nerfing the hell out of it. It's served me well these long two years.
As for some of the speculation on the phone, coming from the model that I am, even the most flaws part of this phone should be an improvement. Battery life? Psh, anything more than like 2 hours of talk time before my white-hot phone dies on me will be an improvement. Screen size? Sure, 4.3 would be nice, but a 3.7 is significantly larger than I'm used to. Overall size? Meh. I like a good sized phone. I have huge hands. I can't tall you all how many times I've dropped my Touch. RAM? I don't buy 256 for a minute. Not on this beast. I'd wager a paycheck that this'll be different at release. Fugly backplate? Eh, it isn't that bad. If everyone thinks it really is, there will be aftermarket replacements faster than this thing will update your Facebook status. 3rd party manufacturers aren't stupid. If there's a market, they will sell.

If the N1 becomes available on essentially every network in the US (CDMA and GSM), is there some benefit in that alone as far as the root/ROM community goes. I.e. i would think there will be a big dev (like Cyanogen) who will make ROMs for all carrier variants of a phone (not sure how much more complex it is to port the same ROM for CDMA and GSM). And since Sense (see what i did there???) is already running on an N1 through a custom ROM what will be the real benefits of the Incredible? (forgetting for a sec the pain in the arse customer service stuff...hoping that gets solved before every carrier in the US has these)

I for one would 'settle' for the N1 if I don't hear at least a planned release date during CTIA. I think at this point I'd pick the Incredible over the N1 because all of my hours spent trying to dig up information has made it an even more special phone for me.
I think I would go N1 if I can get it on Family Plan since I am stealing the primary's upgrade and NE2.
Then I will get my line a new phone when I am due in August!

True, I am more interested in the Incredible as well. I also want to be able to take the phone to VZW for help and service if need be. I also read some articles online about N1 screen just cracking or cracking due to flexing in people's pockets.. Is it that flimsy or weak? I plan on buying a holster and screen protector for whatever phone I get, but if it is in my jeans pocket and I run the risk of flexing and the screen cracking, that sucks.
