Help WIFI shuts off when screen times out

My issue is that my EVO 3D won't stay connected to WiFi once the screen gets turned off. It immediately switches to 3G despite having a strong WiFi signal in the house. Any ideas?

By default, your wifi is set to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity. Is that possibly it? You can change it to never or never while charging. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Wifi settings > push menu button > Advanced > Wifi sleep policy.

check your settings here:

EDIT: if you are rooted, this may be an issue with our ROM.

tell the class when this started happening and what have you done to troubleshoot. list the ROM also if you are rooted.

Stock, not rooted. I haven't really trouble shooted much as I just started noticing it. When I unlock the phone it will still stay on 3G until I click on the Wifi Settings and then it will immediately connect. I'm not worried about the Wifi going to sleep when the phone is not plugged in, just that it sits there on 3G the whole time and that kills my battery faster.

I'm on never.

Have you tried rebooting or even pulling the battery out for 10 seconds or so?

If yes, the next step would be Factory reset, due to you not being rooted.
