Root [CDMA] install rom without rom manager help please.

Lurker
Well i first joined here late last year when i rooted my phone, although i was edgy at first i eventually got bored and tried a few different roms with rom manager.
I dont really feel safe only knowing how to flash a rom with an app,i have downloaded romeos3d and warm two point three rom, both straight from xda-dev's.
Bored again, want to learn more and try some rom options.
The manual process is probably the best way, any info and links are welcome.

There was a patch zip for romeos, i dont know what to do with that, do i just overwrite the "meta-inf" and "system" folders in the rom's rar before i flash, or can i run it directly on the phone?

Also any tips, rom/kernel suggestions, app market recommendations etc.

Thanks everyone!

Make your life easy and download the app Quikboot, then when you want to boot into recovery to flash something, Open QB app and choose recovery, and that will allow you to be in recovery to flash your ROM.

You can boot to recovery with ROM manager however I would not recommend using ROM manager for anything at all. I bought it and haven't installed it on my last four phones. Jmo. But go with what Don said if you want easy access to recovery and flash through there. You will get the hang of it quick much safer that way than ROM manager.

Actually, if you're on HBOOT 1.5, you might as well get used to using ADB and fastboot.

I have a guide for how to use them both here:

http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all...tboot-flashing-rom-kernel-updated-2-13-a.html

I'm on HBOOT 1.4 and I've been using ADB/fastboot more and more since writing that guide. I can even switch recoveries (between CWM and TWRP) with one command. It appears you can 'temp use' a recovery from the PC if you need to use one specific recovery for a specific flash. It's very cool.
