Help multiple of the same apps

I'm just learning about my Incredible S and have the latest upgrade 2.3.5 with Optus
Why is there multiply apps of the same apps but with different version numbers. FM Radio, People, Stocks, Weather
How can I stop the process for Facebook from restarting after I stop it, I dont use Facebook.
Factory data reset is this save to use

These are stock apps and unless you root your phone they are there to stay. If you open your Facebook>menu>settings then uncheck notification. No point in doing a factory reset as these apps will still be there lol.
