Root Rooting the LG Optimus M MetroPCS

Krock06

Newbie
I have an LG Optimus M upgraded to android version 2.2.2, I saw a few threads on here on how to root it but I was wondering If anyone could walk me through it sometime? Get at me really don't want to brick my phone

honestly, I would just install a custom rom like Reppards cyanogenmod rom or whichever one you want, theres a couple you can browse through just checking here Optimus M - All Things Root - Android Forums.
Its really simple and if you used the link puyow18 gave you, you should already have recovery installed so installing a rom is super simple, you just need an sd card, which you should already have if you followed the thread above to root your phone and install recovery.

Reppards rom already comes with bloatware removed and a lot more options, if you want to do it I can help you out or anyone else on here, if you just want to remove bloatware something like astro file manager will do, I have root explorer but you have to pay for that app, and I think astro file manager is free and you can do the same thing, removing bloatware, someone can correct me if im wrong.

also if you want to remove the bloatware instead of flashing a rom I would suggest you look at this page if you dont know what you are doing since you dont want to remove something from your phone which will be a mission to fix.

What he ^ said. +1. Reppards CM7 ROM is a really good one. That's what I'm using on mine and my wife's phones right now, and have been for several months.

If you can help that'd be great, just want all the garbage gone from my apps. Seems so pointless to waste all that space

@Krock06 you rooted your phone with the link that puyow18 right?

edit: assuming you have heres what to do.

1. Go to this link
[ROM][YACR] CM 7.1-Reppard
http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/407601-rom-yacr-cm-7-1-reppard.html

2. Scroll down to bottom of first post and download the two items in the link.

The Rom (CM7.1-reppard 9-20-2011)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22300603/CM7.1-reppard-09202011.zip

and the Gapps
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip

I relisted the links here, their the same as the one in his thread.

Save them to your desktop or wherever you please on your computer.

3. Connect your phone to your pc

4. Enable "USB storage"

5. Make a folder, name it 000 or whatever you want, I put 0's so it comes up first since items are listed in alphabetical order. And put the 2 downloaded files there.

6. Turn off your phone

7. Put your phone in recovery. To do this you hold down the "volume down" the "home" and the "power" button on your phone until the recovery menu pops up, should be black and blue/yellow letters.

You browse around the recovery menu using the volume up/down keys, menu, and back keys, under screen from left to right, menu is 1st key and back is 3rd key.

IMPORTANT: GO TO BACKUP/RESTORE AND MAKE A NAND BACKUP IMMEDIATELY IN CASE ANYTHING GOES WRONG.
Also you can use titanium backup to backup your apps.

8. Scroll down to USB-MS toggle, hit menu to select, then hit menu again to select USB-MS Toggle SDCard, if it asks you to confirm do it, and back everything from your phone to a folder on your computer, as I do not remember if flashing a rom deletes your information, I think it only deletes if you format the sd card but just to be on the safe side.

9. Get out of USB-MS Toggle by hitting menu.

10. Go back to main recovery screen, scroll down to wipe and from bottom to top wipe everything, although it is not necessary I would do it so you dont have any problems.

11. Go back to main recovery screen, select flash zip menu, select Toggle signature verification, and choose the rom's zip from sd card.

12. it will tell you if to confirm if you want to install it just say yes, it will install.

13. After it installs select the gapps zip file you downloaded and install that.

14. Go back to main screen and select Reboot system now.

It should reboot, might take a while, if it gets stuck in the boot animation just take out the battery put it back in and power on phone again.

15. Skip when it tells you to login to a google account

16. open market and sign in to your google account there.

Everything should be good. If you need any help just say it.

Do I need these downloads on my phone or the com?

Download them and save them on your sd card.

Taking out the battery and putting it in again and powering on phone should do the trick. It happens to me every time I flash a friends phone.

If you still want to flash it again just repeat the process, get into recovery and flash rom then gapps again. No need to restore.

Leave it for like 5 minutes to see if it boots, sometimes it takes a while if not just reflash, just remember when reflashing you have to disable verification before flashing or else the phone won't let you.

It wants to, i power it up and rotates a few times then freezes. other times it just refreshes the screen with him skating in
