Root Easiest way to unlock and root Rezound

im glad you found a tool that made you comfortable for the root process. at this point,id reccomend to spend some time reading and try learn as much as you can,as flashing roms on the rezound is a lil different than what folks who have come from more conventionally unlocked phones are used to.

also be aware that the tool prolly permanently installed your recovery,making it impossible now for you accept OTAs.

last and not least,make sure you clicked the "thanks" button on hasoon2000's post,and consider making a small donation,as he has certainly put alot of time and effort into it. :)
 
hahaha I'm such a noob, I guess, that even though I'm logged in at XDA... I can't "thank" him. :-| Talk about feeling like an idiot..but I can't find the !@)$*% button. :-|
 
What's the difference between rooting this way vs a manual way?
Thought the risks that Scotty mentioned exist whenever you root?
Noob here, and trying to decide if it's worth rooting. Had a DroidX rooted with no issues. The rezound seems more challenging though
 
biggest difference is the tool is trying to make it as easy,and as close to a "1 click" as possible,and my guide describes in as much detail as i can,how to do the individual steps yourself.

i personally dont like one clicks. i understand why folks use them,but it is my opinion that if the end result of having a rooted phone is worth it,then it should be worth the effort of learning some basics on how to interact with it and manipulate it,in case things go awry,you will have some basic knowledge for us to help you get out of it.

in my short time inthese forums,ive see alot of:1)run 1 click 2)"im rooted!! what now?" post. 3)soft brick and extreme moments of panic as some basic skills are learned to get out of the jam ;)

just my 2 cents :)

as for risks,im not sure what youre refering to... the ability to recieve OTAs? if thats the case,floowing my guide teaches you how to temprarily launch your recovery to flash the root files and make a backup,while leaving the stock recovery in place. so the risk of getting goofed up by an OTA trying to install itself with a custom recovery(amon or clockwork) are not there.

if you rooted to remove bloat,and maybe use a hotspot(2 biggest reasons i see) and have no interest in flashing roms,or constantly making/restoring backups,a custom recovery is NOT needed. permanently installing the custom recovery does nothing but cause you headaches down the road.

I unlocked, rooted and stayed stock following Scotty85's advice to temp flash the recovery. I was able to remove bloat which is all I really wanted.

When you reboot after temp flashing, nothing changes with respect to unlock/root; you will remain unlocked/rooted. You no longer have Amon Ra recovery booted to memory; if you boot to recovery, you will go to the stock recovery.
 
thanks that about sums it up :)

when recovery is booted to memory,its not permanently written anywhere. after booting the phone,the stock recovery is still in place,waiting for OTAs :D you need to use the commands to launch recovery each time you want to use it.

Coming from an OG Droid and a DX, I just assumed it made the most sense to permanently install a custom recovery. I do like your thinking though :thumb:

if you like to root and rom,and are constantly using recovery,then maybe a permanent recovery does make more sense. ;) but the folks that flash it,then boot to recovery once to flash superuser files dont need it.

I was a flashaholic on my DX. I just wasn't ever totally happy with anything I ran. I'm certain that's b/c of the 2ND INIT nonsense. I was always looking for the next best thing...which was never quite enough. I'm hoping I won't find my way down that path with this bad boy as well. So far, this phone is amazing...presuming I don't screw it up!
 
Will this work if i just downloaded the ICS update? I click on step 3 and hit go and nothing happens. Same with step 1. How do I know if the drivers are installed correctly?

if youre refering to my manual guide,yes,it will work fine,youll just need a different superuser for ICS.

if youre refering to the all in one tool,i dont know. its not my tool ;) best bet would be go to the xda and search that thread. if you dont see answers,ask in the thread.

if you decide to do it manually we can certainly help you with that. :)

I was actually about to ask in your thread about that. Do you happen to know of what superuser we should get, or is it easy to find?

Can you post a link to the superuser that we do need? Or a link to a guide that I can use to root now that I have ICS?

Hey guys, I used hasoon's toolkit, but it didn't go as smoothly as I thought it would. I was able to make it through all of the steps until the last one, where you click "perm root" and your phone is supposed to restart and the dos screen does its magic. Well, when I clicked this and then "go" nothing happens. I've tried everything I can think of and it just won't work. I used amon ra recovery and I'm pretty sure it installed correctly. The phone still works like normal, although everything was wiped from it.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get this step to work?

your best bet for support for the tool,would be to search the tools support thread on xda. if you dont see any info,then maybe ask in the thread.

if you wish to install superuser manually,all you need to do is download and flash it in recovery. but,ive not used to tool,and have no idea how it works,so i cant help there ;)
