Photon vs. All android motorola phones

Ive had the DROID, DROID x, DROID x2, DROID 2, DROID 3, atrix, and DROID razr. Yes i hv a fetish with phones. I hv Verizon and sprint. Personal is Verizon, work is sprint. Im dropping Verizon cause they suck. But i degress. The photon on sprint is by far the best phone motorola has to offer. Im kinda sick of seeing all the android magazine's talking so much about everyother motorola phone except the photon. Hell they still harping on that atrix. The reception is far better than all other motorola phones. Its faster in 4g areas than the others and screen looks so much better than the rest. So there would hv been so much more development if sprint would hv stopped pushing the htc evo, which sucks and the evo 3d, which is just a tape recorder looking phone sucks to. So for us photon users i think we got the shaft. Oh well.. But look what we hv.. Oh a the return rate for the photon is lower than anyother phone.. This is just my opinion. But some facts in this statement.

If SPRINT would cozy up to GOOGLE/MOTOROLA,they could present us w/the ultimate trifecta:

Unlimited Data/Pure GOOGLE ANDROID OS/MOTOROLA hardware & quality

As you stated,we already have one of the best phones on the market to date, all manufacturers included. If SPRINT had cozied up to GOOGOROLA instead of HTC,we'd probably already have 100% compatibility w/the LAPDOCK 500 & a promise of ICS coming soon.

SPRINT chose the wrong horse in this race,by far.

I'm hoping SPRINT changes their focus & makes the PHOTON & future MOTOROLA phones their primary focus, along w/offering choices to those that choose otherwise.

I think there are 2 factors that push the MoPho into the background as compared to all the other Super phones out.

1) Verizon's long history with Motorola and more specifically Motorola Android phones

2) Sprint's Marketing (which is by far the WORST out of all the carriers).

The only reason I don't like the fact that the MoPho isn't hyped is it stops 3rd party manufacturers from creating aftermarket accessories. Even SGP, my favorite screen protector, didn't make one for the MoPho (despite it being Sprint's 1st Motorola Super Android phone).

Other than 3rd party accessory support (or lack thereof), I'm kinda happy the phone runs under the radar.

No doubt about the history between VERIZON & MOTOROLA.

The fact that the PHOTON has flown under the radar has probably got some into this phone at a bargain price who otherwise wouldn't have had that luxury if the PHOTON was more popular & therefore, probably more expensive to get into.

But,I believe that the lack of marketing & attention from SPRINT has come at the cost of not having ICS promised to us yet,if ever,& the lack of 100% compatibility w/the LAPDOCK 500 PRO.

No hard, cold facts to base this on,just a humble opinion.

With that said,I believe one last marketing push from SPRINT to get more people into this phone, before they start releasing the 4G LTE line-up,may generate enough interest in getting both ICS & 100% compatibility w/the LAPDOCK 500 PRO to become a reality.

I just wish they used a different screen. The PenTile screen is so grainy...its terrible. I watch Youtube videos where they zoom in a written text on a screen or piece of paper and its illegible because of the PenTile screen.

I'd much rather have a IPS LCD in HD resolution.

Go to amazon.. Every accessory brand made for all the motorola phones and htc phones are made for the photon.. Just gotta look.. I hv 6 tpu cases. Trident cases.. Both outterbox.. Take a look

Im not being an ass but i spend alot of time using this phone. Cause my wk laptop has more firewalls than <removed by moderator>. Which means i hv millions of firewalls <removed by moderator>. Anywho i think the screen res is the best unless you move screen to scree slowly you can notice the pixels. Never noticed with any utube or anything as a matter of fact. And i use close to 5gig of data a month. Yes i hv a job. Not a occupy Wallstreet protester sitting around all day. But my screen res is perfect. Try messing with screen brightness.. This is just my opinion

I too notice the screen looks better when the brightness is all the way down...however, this is a unusable 'fix' unless you are in a dark environment all the time.

Additionally, these statements show your acknowledgement of the Photon's screen drawbacks:
the screen res is the best unless you move screen to scree slowly you can notice the pixels.

I too own a Photon, but it doesn't stop me from admitting to facts.

Also, I'm not sure what the political talk has to do with this thread.

cuz its funny and true is why...(political speak anyway)

and i had a brain lapse and tried verizon out and the razr.....it is a baddddd mama jama for sure....

and there are lots of things i wish moto would have added into the photon...

with that said....its a damn stable phone, and aside from NO android phones able to use head phones (damn you i-phone) there isnt a lot of am wishing for...

oh also aside from sprints service being ehhhhh

Not necessarily what I was looking for. I was more looking for SGP screen protector or other "dock/charging" options.

Ugh! Can a moderator come to this thread and obliterate all of the political talk please?

This is Android Forums and it's supposed to be about Android. Political arguments are for other kinds of forums.

Let's stop bashing or defending Obama or any other politician for that matter.

Let's get back to talking about Android and specifically the awesome MoPho please before this place becomes a scorched earth zone with raging flame wars.

What the hell people.

First of all..
Any political statements should be confined to the Politics section, that is what its there for.
Second..
Flaming any member regardless who started it is uncalled for and will not be tolerate. Infractions have been given out, do it again and time off will be given simple as that.

Finally, I have removed the political stuff out of the posts.

I am using my 4th photon. I continue to have problems. My phone gets hot and the battery drains rapidly and the phone will not make or receive calls. Battery usage indicates very high usage by the android os. I primarily use the phone for calls. I called motorola and was told it is a hardware issue. It only occurs 1 or 2 days a week. Today for the first time, my wife's phone did the same thing. It 5 hours of android os usage.

The Photon is my first cell phone and it's the reason I chose Sprint over any other carrier. I am bummed that Sprint didn't market it more but I secretly laugh at most of my friends that don't have as good of a phone as I do even if they came out after the Photon lol :D. I don't live in a Clearwire area so I only get 3g and I'm not really that bummed about it.

PS: The power of the kickstand cannot be denied.

lol I love that.

Speaking of which, I am surprised that no 3rd party outfit has ever thought of making back covers for phones that do not have a kickstand with one that does.
It would probably be a bit thicker to incorporate the kickstand part, but still.

Assuming Motorola makes a Photon 2, I hope they can duplicate what Samsung looks to be doing with the SGS III. The phone height is smaller, but the screen got bigger!

Samsung Galaxy S III - New Cell Phones

Considering how ICS can be used ideally, that would be amazing to get a phone with a bigger screen and not have the overall dimensions of the phone get bigger (but in fact, get smaller)!

oh damn.....

that phone is sweeeeeet....to bad the gps is crap :p:p:p:p:p

i was just looking at my photon....and they did a pretty good job of making it mostly screen...

get rid of the buttons below, and the motorola name up top...and you could squeeze another 1" maybe

Yeah, I hope Motorola can follow Samsung's lead and make the Photon 2 similar in setup! At that point, add a quad-core processor...yeah, that's pretty much as close to a perfect phone that I could get.

I'm really curious to see what the super phone for Sprint will be from Motorola. I can't remember, was it April or May that the Photon was announced? I really have loved having the Photon. We're 7 months down the line already, 160+apps installed, and I still haven't noticed ANY lag. Comparing to my EVO, that's night and day. The EVO started to lag more and more at the same point last year. And keep in mind, that's without rooting.

With the information rumored recently about the htc one x coming to sprint with a quad core, now i'm really really anxious to see how motorola steps up for sprint! If that was what they released instead of the 3d, I might've stuck with htc. Now that I've experienced Motorola android, not sure I can go back.

And great thing to see is all the manufacturers shrink the phone's overall size, but also being able to increase screen size. I'd be willing to not have kickstand, if the phone is much thinner to the point that adding a kickstand case would make the phone same size as current photon.

I guess, these phones were rumored back in April 2011, but looks like Verizon is getting more Moto Android phones before anything is even being rumored for Sprint! I take that as either a really good thing or a really bad thing. I hope it's the former. If there's anything I'm convinced with, it's that whatever Moto Android Super Phone that Sprint and Moto come up with, it'll be quad-core and likely have NFC (especially with the announcement that Sprint will have multiple NFC capable phones. I'd imagine they'd put a LTE antenna in it as well, just in preparation for Sprint's LTE build out.

Quad Core QWERTY qHD Ultraphones Coming: the Motorola Bullet and Motorola Jet

I really like the MoPho's form factor compared to the square design of the Verizon Moto's that have that weird top portion where the camera is. I've never been a fan of that, necessarily, but if it's necessary to get a thinner phone...it may be something I'm willing to deal with.

I too like the form factor, people at first didn't like the chopped off corners, but I think it makes the Photon unique looking, much like the Galaxy Note being so big, its different from anything else out there.

It will be interesting to see what Moto comes out with in the next few months on Sprint. Even though the HTC phones are looking nice and I am still gett ing that Note regardless.

My dream phone would be something like the next step of the RAZR Maxx with the MoPho kickstand.

That would be nice. Only thing is, the Razr Maxx does have similar dimensions to the SGS II (except slightly less wide). I didn't like how the ET4G felt. I never really tried holding the Razr Maxx.

If they could somehow fit the screen on the Razr Maxx or ET4G without changing the overall dimensions of the current Photon, I'd be fine with that. If they had to straighten out the edges (without the angles), just to make a bigger screen fit, I'd be fine with that also.

Main reason for liking it is the crazy battery life while still maintaining a thin form factor. I'm an extremely heavy user and at times wished I had more battery but don't want a stupid large phone.
