I agree. We talked a little about it earlier. A black back that matched the front with the red buttons would like ballin'. Real "sporty". I think the red back plate might be a little much. However, maybe they will release it with a black plate and offer interchangable plates which could be red.

I don't see VZW taking a chance releasing such a "bold" phone with all that red, but making the red back plate an accessory to match the buttons. I have no proof of any of this or anything though. I am just guessing. Either way, the red buttons are like 99% gonna be on it.

I can't imagine that a 3rd party wouldn't jump on the chance to produce back plates to make a quick buck knowing that a lot of users don't want a blazing red phone.

I apologize for not seeing the previous talk, haven't been on here for a few hours and you guys have filled up plenty more pages!

Okay here is a question.. Say it IS a mid tier device. That's what they (VZW) want it to be. That means mid tier pricing (or it should mean that). Other than thinking this was going to be more, that wouldn't be so bad? Say it is priced at one fiddy or even $99. Has 256, with the snapdragon. Still is pretty fast (close to N1). Then that wouldn't be bad. Still a good phone. Maybe this phone is supposed to replace the Eris. Be the Eris' upgrade. The Eris is considered an entry level phone, so they could be upgrading to a mid level with the Incredible... It's "Incredible" for what you get at the mid level and for the pricing..

*hit I might end up with an Eris yet. I know everyone has their own priorities and want certain things, but you never know. Even if it comes out as a mid tier device, it might not be that bad.

Maybe for you it won't be that bad. If the May timeframe is true, I know some posters here will have been waiting almost half a year for what would amount to a marginal upgrade in specs, not even close to worth the wait. The Nexus One set the bar in January. The Desire is slated to hit the market in April with the same specs, slightly more polished. I'm guessing a number of people here are shooting for at least the bar. So if the Incredible is a mid-tier phone, it's not appealing to a large number of people who thought it would be something more. It would also separate Verizon from the majority of worldwide carriers picking up the Desire in that they'd all have HTC's flagship Android offering while Verizon really ends up with something more modest. Par for the course.

You may be right, but then how long are we to wait for an Android phone from Verizon on par with the HTC Desire or the soon to be released SuperSonic - another 6 months to a year? That's nuts! Why commit to 2 year contract when everyone else but Verizon are going to have the best and most advanced HTC Android phones on the market? Heck, I can just see myself getting an Incredible a month or so from now and feel as though the technology is outdated in less than three months. What's so "incredible" about that? :D

One more random note on the look of the phone.

I did get a reply via twitter from DevDroidian earlier regarding the red back. As all who read his earlier report he could only see the phone in dim light. I asked him what his thoughts were of the red back plate after seeing it in a lit room. He replied with this: "I liked the red and black this go round, I could see the phone much better this time, it is sexy." Maybe when we finally get a decent shot that shows the whole phone we might actually like the red a lot more.

I would say you guys should follow me on twitter, but really I just tweet about the Pittsburgh Penguins a ton which I'm sure none of you really want to hear haha. I would suggest following him though @DevDroidian.

Do people really care if the Snapdragon is underclocked to 850 Mhz? According to Eris users who updated to the leaked 2.1 w/sense, even their old-a$$ cpu architecture at 528Mhz seems snappy. ANY top-tier snapdragon architecture above, say, 600 Mhz should seem very snappy with this software, and a minimal underclock to 850 would probably increase battery life!

As for the 256 ram, well... that is more suspect. If it does ship with that little, i can guarantee the software is optimized to run smoothly with 6 or so apps open.

They would not purposefully cripple their phone! Engineering is about give and take for price / performance until optimization is finished. If it ships with the lower amount of ram, it is because the software has been optimized to USE LESS RAM!

Spec-nazis should play with the phone when it comes out, open a bunch of intensive apps, and see if there's any slowdown. If it's smooth sailing, who cares what's inside??

EDIT: I can see caring for future-proofing, but who really keeps the same phone for the life of a 2-year contract anyway? :P

I personally think that the supersonic and Incredible are gonna be comparable in specs. I know the screen will be different, but back to camera, when searching through Flickr, we found an account which seemed to be a Tester for Sprint stationed in Kansas. This person took pictures which had the same 1952x3264 resolution as the pictures taken by Nimigo.

Nimigo's pictures were "Taken With a HTC ADR6300"
the Sprint tester's pictures were "Taken With a HTC PC36100"

So I'm seeing the PC36100 as probably the SS, and the ADR6300 as the Incredible.

Note: Pictures from garden were also found "Taken With a HTC Bravo" and later her pictures change to "Taken With a HTC Desire" and both had a lower resolution than the ADR6300 and PC36100.

Sounds like they're saying it's a sensor and not the screen itself. That would be a separate component that could be replaced pre-production on two of those three.

Desire is already dated, N1 is supposedly dated for VZW on the 23rd - Is it possible to be fixed via hardware before then? Then theres the question of whether Desire will not be fixed because it has a hard release and N1/Incredible will be fixed because it still has the option of being pushed back?

You kind of beat me to the punch...

Based on earlier reports/speculation that the Incredible has 256mb RAM and a 1GHz Snapdragon, I wondered how they were going to market this against the Droid and coming N1?

Well, it makes perfect sense to me if it only has 256mb RAM and an 850MHz Snapdragon - because I had a hard time believing they were going to pit one HTC handset (N1) against another for one, as well as against their flagship Droid to boot.

Given that you can now buy a Droid for $100 - AND buy one/get one right now, I don't know how they bring in a new handset with lesser specs and charge more than the Droid is right now UNLESS they are rolling it out with the N1 and positioning it as a step down from that. But even then, I don't know how they charge more for this phone than a Droid unless they are hoping that gorgeous Sense UI is enough to blind everyone to the actual specs of the phone vs. the others.

Who knows - it might.

Here is something to blow your mind, what if when you bought the phone it came with both a black and red back plate so the customer could just put on the one they want.

If they caught it with the Tmo N1 early then yes its entirely possible the VZW N1 won't have those problems. If they just found out about it 2 weeks ago its doubtful and we'll see a push back of the launch date. I can't imagine though it would have gotten through Verizon testing with those problems.

For all of the folks supposedly "testing" the darn phone, you'd think we'd have some clear-cut idea of the specs by now? It's just like Verizon to do little to confirm or deny rumors even weeks before a new phone is released, while everyone knows the specs of a phone well in advance on T-Mob, Sprint and to a lesser extent, AT&T.

While their network and coverage may not be as good as Big Red's, they are much better a self-promoting and marketing. I hope folks in the upper echelon's of Verizon's management check in on these forums from time to time. Perhaps one day they'll get a clue instead of always having their lunch handed to them in the world of handsets by their competitors.

Sprint does not give any inf on their new phones. We are all stuck in the same boat as you guys.:(

I don't know - I could see it shipping with the red back easily. After all, Verizon IS "Big Red."

And I wouldn't put it past the realm of possibility for it to be a project (RED) item. So it could really be:

Inc(RED)ible

No, no man you're good. No apologies.

I agree, I am sure there will be something. I think google should make one... A black one to match the front with the android guy on it, in a different shade of black or multiple colors.. white, red, green. A black cover with a red android guy to match the red buttons. would look kinda cool. Or the android green.

While I understand wanting to get customers to buy already available product up until the last second why delay marketing a product to be released a few weeks from now? VZW should be pushing their handset makers to use that momentum and pushing this new device out to people now (same with Devour) to keep them from going to OTHER carriers. Only in wireless communications do I see little product marketing and more service marketing. We all know the service side (coverage map, pricing etc) but it's the phones that get the higher priced plans purchased.

JUST FU**ING TELL ME ALREADY VERIZON!! :-)

No I agree with you. I totally see where you're coming from. I'm just trying to help. You seem real pissed and that sucks. Maybe it will be what you are looking for. I just don't want people putting all this time into the thread and being real bent up about it if the phone isn't what they want. Sorry man.

I don't get the whining about the backplate. They make a case for every freaking phone out there! Just case it up like everyone else - BOOM - problem solved.

I disagree. Sprint knows that their only chance of taking market share away from the competition (primarily Big Red) is to have the most current, coolest and powerful handsets (in particular, smartphones) on the market. They've done a pretty good job of it to now. Rest assured the S.S. will have a full 1ghz processor and I've heard perhaps as much as 1.5 ghz snapdragon. It will have more bells and whistles than the Incredible and will be their Android flagship handset for the rest of 2010. Verizon may get a phone on par with it this year, but it likely won't be until the back half and I doubt the Incredible will be it. Again, I hope I'm wrong, but given Verizon's woeful track record of delivering cutting edge handsets ahead of the competition, I doubt it.

Nimigo's pictures were "Taken With a HTC ADR6300"
the Sprint tester's pictures were "Taken With a HTC PC36100"

So I'm seeing the PC36100 as probably the SS, and the ADR6300 as the Incredible.

or this phone could be the hero 2/legend.

Another way of thinking is....how much longer can this BOGO sale at Verizon last. After this is over, they're gonna have to have some new phones ready to go. Let's say the N1 is only sold on Google, there's no way the VZW online store could do any business without a phone of their own. Either the Incredible will be offered on the VZW store soon, or we'll be able to get the N1 there. I'm actually fine either way, but hope that the Incredible has beefier specs and is available on the 23rd.

Summarizing: The BOGO can't last forever, and the online VZW store is gonna have to have something there to pick up the slack when it ends.

I'd buy you a beer if you wanna meet at floods in downtown S-burg sometime  haha

I'd be totally down with 2 covers in the box. It goes along with the total customization of google/android

or this phone could be the hero 2/legend.
However, the Legend already has confirmed specs of a 5MP camera from HTC itself. Don't you find it odd(telling) that the SS and Incredible haven't had specs released, and both seem to have Flickr evidence suggesting better specs than currently released/confirmed phones.

Again, I agree with you guys. I am just trying to be positive. I am not saying you don't have a right to be angry or disappointed. I will be disappointed too, but I'll also get over it and make my mind up on that phone or something else. You can't hold out forever, well you could, but it'd be a long time lol. Also I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't what we all expect. I always seem to be disappointed about 1 -2 things on the Verizon phones. I just got use to it :(
