People need to remember the Devdroid entry is from nearly 2 months ago. they also mentioned 11 homescreens which I don't think it happening. Does the phone really need more then 256 RAM? For most people I would doubt it. Only when you start to open a bunch of apps are you going to see a speed difference between the Incredible and Nexus One.

Who is the say that Google isn't limiting other companies devices (no 2.1 upgrade yet, no living wallpaper, no more than 256or so mb) in order to push their N1 agenda (at last on the HTC side for the rights to build the N1)? I mean........you would think that companies would upgrade ram per new device (especially one running 2.1) or not having 1.6 and at least 2.0 or 2.1. Maybe I am just dumb.

We already know that the Desire will have more Ram than the N1.

I think the HTC Incredible is going to have more than just 256mb of ram. For one, the HTC Legend has like 388mb and it's a mid-low end phone somewhat.

The Incredible is gonna be a high end phone with snapdragon, im somewhat expecting atleast 512mb but of course no none is sure until it actually comes out.

Im just hoping this thing comes out on March 23rd and no later.........it would be a pain if it came out in may.

I have to say, if this device does come with only 256MB of RAM, I'm going to feel shafted. Us Verizon customers have been waiting....and waiting....and waiting for a phone of this caliber to finally be delivered to us (the network that always seems to be last in line for new phones) and the if final product has only 256MB, I can't help but feel we got the watered down version compared to what the other carriers will be getting.

If this thing really only has 256MB of RAM, a lot of people are going to be eating their words. "Don't be stupid....there's no way HTC would put that much into a phone and have less memory than the Eris!" We'll see, won't we?

I have a lot of posts to eat if it ends up being 256mb... and an N1 to pick up.

if this phone has only 256 RAM I am not going to buy it and I will feel that Verizon just tries to screw it customers by putting out inferior products!!!!!!!!!!!!

tluv00 it is still a snapdragon, this early development model is under clocked to 850, I don't know why, it still ran just as smooth with sense UI as the Nexus I played with earlier in the night.

You can't really tell in the pics, but there is no trackball, just a tiny little black dot, it works just as well if not better than my experiences with the trackball.

How much app storage space is there on the phone? Thanks for all your info.

Looks like I'm cemented in getting the Nexus One since it will probably be available earlier. It might have been delayed with the multi-touch issue, but if Verizon is keeping on top of Google/HTC about releasing a high quality device, so be it. I can wait a few weeks if that's the case. The Incredible isn't sounding so incredible, certainly nothing that would edge the other phones, and with a delay until May...eh. Still wish I could get a Desire on Verizon. That would be the ultimate get.

If it has 256MB, and can do all the things that is asked of it, what does it really matter?

Back plate color...the phone is about what it can do for you, the color doesn't matter, that's why they make cases and covers. I personally like the red though...it's a break from the norm.

I ahve no problems with the color, i like the red/black combo. I just want a phone that stands up spec wise with other phones, Desire on AT&T!!!! Verizon never seems to want GREAT phones on their network. I have been with Verizon since they were PRIMECO!

EVERYONE RELAX DAMNIT haha

Seriously though. I am willing to bet the unit he posted about 2 months ago and the unit he played with last night were the same (possibly the exact same phone). The 1-2 months ago was an early test unit. The one he played with last night was also probably a test unit.

READ THIS:

until we have the exact specifications on the handset there is no reason to lose sleep and get upset. Wait for the real deal and check it out. I see blood pressures going through the roof. Have faith that this is not going to disappoint. No need to get all down about the phone until we get the official specs. I'm just sayin'!

Besides, he said it was just as fast as the N1 he played with.

Ironic that it takes an open network device like the Nexus One to bring killer Android specs to Verizon's network. If Verizon's creation in collaboration with HTC is really this 3-year old iPhone looking design with free form back cover to hide it's thickness, a 5mp camera, and 256mb ram, it's pretty pathetic that it's been on the table this long. They could have pushed that out the door November 6th of last year. You guys had me thinking about holding out for the Increidble the past day or two. Glad I regained my clarity.

Just wanted to point out that if the Desire, N1, and Incredible all have the same screens, and two of these three phones havent been released yet, doesnt it make sense that the multi touch issue would be fixed with software? Theres about to be a lot of phones on the market all with the same issue, correcting the problem via hardware wont rectify this fact. So Google would have to be able to issue OTA's to fix it?

We don't really have any evidence that this phone is actually supposed to be a high-end phone. From the beginning, we have heard rumors of 256 MB RAM, underclocked snapdragon, 71 MB of app storage space. Who's to say this isn't going to be just a mid-level device? The only thing that points otherwise (in my mind) is the name, which seems to be very deceiving.

Can it do all the things asked of it with only 256MB RAM? I mean, it seems as swift as the Nexus One out of the gate, but open a few applications and see where you stand. IMO, you shouldn't be releasing a phone running a Snapdragon processor with less than 512MB of RAM, unless you're underclocking it significantly for a mid-tier device.

That's why I think there's some baloney (or bologna if you prefer) specs flying around. Here's a couple of facts to chew on.

1. Verizon's inventory list has VWADR6300 listed.
2. Flickr pictures were taken by nimigo with a resolution of 1952x3264 which translates to a camera > 5MP (these pictures have been found on Flickr as late as 3/1/2010 and had EXIF data which said "Taken With a HTC ADR6300"
3. Nimigo also had a Youtube account which posted the Test Under Dark Light incredible video.
4. This device had a red earpiece.
5. None of the other pictures have had red earpiece, but those seem to have been devices from months ago.
6. Not once have leaked specs mentioned a camera over 5MP, so I think those leaking the specs are A. Full of it, or B. Don't know what they really have.

According to someone at Google, the problem is with the sensors used by the screens, not the software. These phones have different sensors (and apparently cheaper) than what Motorola uses in the Droid lines. And according to that Google rep, the devices are working the way they are designed to. No software update is going to fix a hardware problem stemming from cheaper (or different) sensors.

Okay here is a question.. Say it IS a mid tier device. That's what they (VZW) want it to be. That means mid tier pricing (or it should mean that). Other than thinking this was going to be more, that wouldn't be so bad? Say it is priced at one fiddy or even $99. Has 256, with the snapdragon. Still is pretty fast (close to N1). Then that wouldn't be bad. Still a good phone. Maybe this phone is supposed to replace the Eris. Be the Eris' upgrade. The Eris is considered an entry level phone, so they could be upgrading to a mid level with the Incredible... It's "Incredible" for what you get at the mid level and for the pricing..

*hit I might end up with an Eris yet. I know everyone has their own priorities and want certain things, but you never know. Even if it comes out as a mid tier device, it might not be that bad.

I've been reading these forums since back in early November going through various phases of excitement waiting for the release of "kick-ass" Android phone on Verizon to replace my BB 8830 World Edition Phone, in which my NE2 contract has been up since that time.

At first it was the Passion we all thought Verizon was getting and then the Desire/Bravo and more recently the Incredible, which looks to be the real deal. Sadly, having waited all this time for this phone to finally make it's way to market I am disappointed at what seems to be the specs and may hold out even longer for a better phone.

As someone mentioned earlier, the Incredible looks nearly identical to an iPod touch, which I have and if the red backplate cover is a definite "go", it detracts from the phones otherwise elegant lines and minimalist beauty. The fact that the phone's Snap Dragon processor is underclocked at 850 mhz and may only come with 256 RAM is astounding for a phone bestowed with such a name. Like others here, I hope this is not the case when it is actually released, but one never knows what goes on in the heads of the folks at Big Red.

Sadly, if what appears to be the current edition of the Incredible is released I may take a pass on it after all this time hoping something more powerful, feature rich and stylish would find its way to Verizon. I'm not a big fan of the N1 - especially given the screen problems that have been reported, which leaves me/us with very few options in the world of subsidized Android phones on Verizon. The Eris, while attractive, was too slow and glitchy when I played with it and the Motorola Droid with its square form factor and sliding keyboard holds absolutely no appeal to me.

In a perfect world the Desire would be the HTC Android phone I'd get, but I have absolutely no desire (pun intended) to switch to T-Mob and deal with their crappy coverage. The HD2 would be the other phone from HTC I'd love to get my hands on were a variation of it to find its way to Verizon. I think WinMo 7 is going to be a great O.S. when it's released and I'd love to have a 4.3" AMOLED screen and 1ghz processor driving it.

Sadly, Verizon appears to be missing the boat entirely on this phone and will likely end up delivering a less than "incredible" handset that will leave those who have patiently waited months for them to trump the competition, wanting something more. Unless I'm missing something, I think it's safe to say that this has been an exercise in frustration and that the Incredible will over promise and underdeliver when the product is finally released. I hope for everyone's sake I am wrong, as I had hoped for something more groundbreaking with this phone than the Desire, which looks to be the best Android phone HTC has released to date and the best on the market period. It's just too bad it's not on Verizon. :(

In regards to the red back plate / changing out the back plate:

One thing to note on this picture in particular is the red outline on what I would guess to be ports on the right side. Like it or not, if the Phone goes into production as is you will not be able to remove these.

On the plus side the phone may end up looking quite sleek with a black back plate and the red bezzles around the ports.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like they're saying it's a sensor and not the screen itself. That would be a separate component that could be replaced pre-production on two of those three.

I agree. We talked a little about it earlier. A black back that matched the front with the red buttons would like ballin'. Real "sporty". I think the red back plate might be a little much. However, maybe they will release it with a black plate and offer interchangable plates which could be red.

I don't see VZW taking a chance releasing such a "bold" phone with all that red, but making the red back plate an accessory to match the buttons. I have no proof of any of this or anything though. I am just guessing. Either way, the red buttons are like 99% gonna be on it.
