[Verizon] Going to root my Nexus! Need help!

I'm thinking about rooting my Galaxy Nexus but the only problem is, I don't understand the jargon when I read how to do things. (I.E. fastboot, adb's, etc.) Can someone just explain to me the process in a sense or link me to an article that does so? (And also answering the questions below would be nice.)

What's the easiest/best way to go about unlocking then rooting my phone?

Is there a good way to back up everything on my phone since all my data gets deleted in the process?

And also, are there any problems associated with rooting the phone?

Many thanks to whoever answers all these questions and helps me root my phone successfully!

(I'm usually good with tech but I'm new to Android and I have absolutely no programming experience.)

Thanks again!

Hey I was in the same boat as you. I rooted my og droid when it was acting up to see if it would fix it (it didn't) but it did interest me in rooting. I had my gnex a week before I rooted it. It's pretty cool, I'm hooked.

I used wugs toolkit to initially root, but I had a problem (not with the kit, I accidentally flashed the non-rooted 4.0.4 instead of the rooted version) and decided to download all the necessary stuff so I could see what was going on for myself. I fixed it and learned something fun in the process.

DO IT! Just download the few things to do it manually, it really isn't nearly as hard as it sounds. Then it's only a few commands away.

I used wugfresh to unlock and root. Very easy. It walks you through it step by step. It even let's you relock your phone back to a factory reset. I now use a from with full screen and also no search bar. This is how the phone really should have come. You will love it.

I used youtube. I have the pages bookmarked and i would share but im currently traveling and i do not have my laptob. Just my playbook.
But just search on youtube, it worked amazingly well. No issues once so ever :)

Do you still have any questions, Pkayy? I'd be willing to walk you through the entire process, but first I want to make sure that you understand all the jargon as best you can by reading those forum posts quickly. After that post back here and we can get started!

Here's another vote for wugfresh. I did my very first root on this phone using tools and loaded the liquidsmooth rom with no issues.

I originally did mine back in December 011 the old fashioned way I like to know and learn what I'm doing. However, I've rooted 2 other Nexi with Wugs tool and it was uber simple!

I like the stock phone, but have very poor phone reception. Would like to try and improve with 4.0.4. Don't want to necessarily root. I have tried to read the info but am truly intimidated by it all. Is there a way to just bring the Verizon GN to 4.0.4 and if there is no improvement, bring it back to the 4.0.2 version?
Thank you for any help!

after you unlock and root with Wug, where is the 4.04 file I can flash that includes the new radios? I can't find it
