Eris to v2.x, when?

a thing pops up and ask what i want to do like windows media player or sonic record now or print stuff or open folder to view files and thats i what i click on and i see stuff on my sd card but then i just have this window with "download pbooimg(2) complete" i dont know how to put that download into my sd card

However, when the OTA is made available, won't the installer have the ability to detect which version is on the device and perhaps keep itself from invoking over a leaked 2.1 (or whatever)?

I don't know; just asking.

It just checks that the update is newer than whats installed.

some one please

Dude, I'm sorry, but if you don't know how to simply "Copy" and "Paste" things from one location to another, maybe you should wait until the OTA comes and it does everything for you automatically. It's a simple copy and paste of the zipped file on to your SD card, nothing more.

From what you are describing, you have to know WHERE on your computer the file is downloaded to. Then go to that location to copy and paste it on to your SD card. I don't know where your computer downloads files to, depends on how you have it set up.

You have to change the name of the file to end in .zip remove the 2 from the file name.

i does end in .zip and i goes to winRAR i just dont know what to do from there, there isnt a copy and paste option only extract to option

How much battery do I need to do this? 50%, 100%? Can it be charging while I do this? I'm sorry but I've read this whole thing, and I don't think it's anything anyone mentioned...I'm at 50% and just wondering if I'll be ok or if I should wait. Thanks!

Do not open the zip file in WinZip or any other program.

Simply copy the zip file to your SD card.

Do NOT unzip with WinRAR. Go to where the file is on your computer (Maybe Computer > My Documents > Downloads) and Right click. Click Copy, then click over to your SD card, right click, and click paste.

I agree with above though, I'd be careful - if you're unsure how to do this, you may have further problems. Good luck if you do want to do it, and read all instructions carefully! :)

NKT beat me to it! Listen to him, he's the man and knows what he's doing. :)

some one please

Deep down i hope you're joking. If you don't know how to download a file and put it on the SD card, then perhaps you shouldn't be doing this. Perhaps you shouldn't be using a computer at all, or is today your first time? No offense.

exploder...you can click/hold on the file and drag and drop it on to your SD card. once there follow the instructions posted several times here. do not extract the file.

but how to i copy it if it goes to WinRaR with out me putting it there

WinRAR just finds zip files. CLOSE WINRAR. Go to wherever your computer downloads files to. Default, I think, is My Computer > My Documents > Downloads, but could be different depending on if you're running XP or Vista or 7. If you're on Mac, I don't know where it auto saves. Wherever YOU saved it to is where you will find it.

ETA Don't left click on it when you get to it. That will open it in WinRAR again. RIGHT click and copy to get on your SD car, or Drag and Drop like another user mentioned.

After reading the last 5 pages of nerdgasm (no judgements here I'm sporting 2.1 wood as well,) I think I'm going to give it to the end of the month and hope I get my OTA update by then. Reasons:

1. I'm concerned about my ability to get future OTA updates if I install what is clearly a custom modded (but still mostly official) 2.1 ROM. I want 2.1 really badly, but I'm not sure I want to wait/rely on custom ROMs for all future official OS updates.

2. The different MD5 hashes between this update (pre-patch) and the official update that NKT has been toying with means that this is either older, or they're still making minor adjustments to the final version prior to pushing it out to the masses. When I DO finally get 2.1 I want to make sure it's the most thoroughly tested, stable and tweaked version. Maybe I'll even be able to upgrade with all my current data and settings!

3. By waiting, we can eventually do a compare and contrast, and possibly see if the two versions have any actual differences.

That said if at the end of the month 2.1 hasn't been pushed out to the rest of us, I may re-evaluate my thinking. ;-) In any case, I'm thrilled you all are enjoying it, it adds real value to our devices, and I hope I can join your ranks soon!

That pretty much sums it up for me too, at this point. Now I KNOW it's for real and I'm even more excited about it but I figure it's gotta be right around the corner now and I'm not willing to jump the gun right before they officially release the latest and greatest fully-tested version (assuming this isn't it).

Alright exploder, it's been fun and all but we all know you're joking. It's fun to play the "I think my CD-ROM tray is a cup holder" guy, but that's about enough. There is no way you would even be able to use an Eris if you don't know how to download, copy, and paste. If you really are this clueless, how did you even figure out how to get registered to post on this forum?

1. Stop responding to Exploder and his pleas. If he doesn't understand the simplicity of this, then have him wait for the OTA.

2. So shouldn't we change the title of this thread to 2.1? Or are we waiting for the actual legit OTA update?

3. I like lists. It helps me separate points in a concise manner without making paragraphs. If I do make paragraphs I feel inclined to write more to have a fuller sized paragraph.

thanks for the reply, i just dont understand how to put the download to the sd card i guess the only thing i saw was extract but obviously thats wrong, i just dont know how to put it to the sd card. is it anything like putting music on the sd card im sorry thats just the only thing i know how to do

All right, buddy, I'll take a shot.

1. Download the patched file from Krtek or whatever that guy's website is.

2. Plug your Eris into your computer using the microSD cord from the charger.
3. On the Eris, slide the notification bar at the top down and choose to mount your SD card. The computer should recognize your phone.
4. Find the .zip file you have just downloaded. Do not unzip it. In most cases, you would unzip a .zip file, but not in this one. The phone will do this for you.
5. Open up My Computer and you should see your CD drive, hard drive (C:), etc. Find your phone, which should be listed as a new drive. Click on that and open the folder.
6. Here, you should see all your pictures, a few apps, maybe. Take the .zip file from your hard drive and drag and drop it into the window that is your phone's SD card.
7. The .zip is in.
8. Turn your phone off. That means long press the End button, go to power off, and power off.
9. Press and hold the Green and Red button, simultaneously.
10. Say yes to update when the text pops up.
11. It may look like it's doing nothing and frozen at "image not found!" or something similar, but it's fine. Give it some time.
12. Use the "down volume" button to choose hrboot.
13. The rest is easy information, like your Gmail account and things like that.
14. You now have 2.1
