Root Droid 3 unroot, factory reset, and superuser

So I'm new here I'm new to Android. I rooted my Verizon Droid 3 by Motorola and I installed some apps and after 2 minutes later I was swiping through screens and caught my market icon disappear and so I went to try and go to all apps to open it with the forced market icon (a little white briefcase in top right) and it basically told me this app isn't installed. I tried to install the market manually...No luck what so ever. so I decided to unroot...Again no luck because of system app package wasn't working (I used Pete's tool for the Droid Series) it gave me errors for different reasons before it would start some I were able to fix but then it came down to I think something is broken in his tool because depending on the OS I used it through different errors. So I gave up on that I finally decided to go with a factory reset. Semi waste of my time I think. Why you may ask? Because superuser is STILL THERE I don't want it rooted but on the good side I did get my market app back. I am gonna stick with being unrooted for a while I think I decided way to use that I was gonna take it the next step I should have done what I did with my iPod had it for 3 months or so before I JB it since it give me time to see what I can and can't do and get mad at it and be forced to break rules to do what I desire. So my question after all this rambling and giving as many details of all I've done so far is...How do I get rid of superuser and I mean actually remove the program as I can open it, it's not just an icon it's actually installed it's more like an older version of superuser like when I fixed rooted it. but it's there and it runs. Please help and thank you in advanced. If you need ANYTHING just ask I will be monitoring this like a hawk whenever possible. And again thanks!

Google is rolling out a new market that is now called Google Play (or perhaps it is just Play - I don't have the new market yet.) I assume that this is what happened to you.

You need to use Pete's tools, because a factory reset merely wipes the /data and /cache partitions on the phone - it leaves /system intact, and that is where the superuser app, the su binaries, and the changes to some other files are made by the root process.

If you have deleted or frozen any of the stock apps, they must be restored (or thawed, if they were frozen) before the unroot process can be completed. If you go into the Help menu in Pete's root app, you can download the system apps for your version of the Droid 3 system (likely 5.6.890). Unzip the file that you download into a folder called "restore" within the folder where Pete's tools is stored on your computer and choose the option to restore system when you unroot if you have, in fact, deleted some bloatware.

If that still doesn't work, you can SBF back to stock, but I've never done that myself - perhaps somebody who has will reply.

If you want to get back to box-stock, an SBF will reset EVERYTHING on the phone (not radio, but that's not relevant here) back to the condition it was in when you first unboxed the phone. Apps, settings, preferences, etc., all stock.

So Pete's tool wouldn't work that's why I didn't do that (sorry if I lacked that info but I believe I did mention it but maybe not clear) So I did look into SBF but I can't seem to find the one that is relative to my phone if anyone could help with that I do know Linux quite well and would be willing to go that route if I could just get assistance I need :) Thank you again!

So I actually realize if I search for droid 3 SBF and spell droid right I may just find what I wanted :P I'm sorry for the trouble you guys thank you I'll post here again if I have any further problems.

So I'm doing my research and it's getting harder and harder as I go I got a file I'm downloading and if this doesn't work I may try something else just for the hell of it but at this point I'm ready to give up for the night and see if anyone can find a site with links NOT OUTDATED :P thats the problem all these sites have either no instructions or there links are outdated. Is it bad to reroot a phone rooted already? I'm gonna research that but I'm thinking if maybe I reroot the phone with the tool I used originally the newest version maybe theres a fix for not being able to unroot and I just wanna get your guys opinion if I don't find anything assuring myself. I'll probably do it anyway because I'm daring and desperate and want this done right and in a way I don't have to worry about problems arising that should be arising if I didn't have it rooted before (I basically saying I want it spot clean no permission mess ups or anything other then what is messed up with the original AndroidOS

Ok, so click this link. It's the entire quick unbricking script (5 min SBF) directly from my Dropbox account.

http://bit.ly/D3UnBrick

(AFAIK, this is the only working Droid 3 Quick SBF link working. It's my personal mirror.)

Now, unzip the folder as a whole onto your desktop.

Boot with M+Power and select AP Fastboot.

Connect with the stock cable and double click "CLICK HERE TO blahblahblah.bat".

A prompt window will appear and automatically start SBF'ing your phone.

I'll boot once done and be like it was straight out of the box. No previous data will be preserved.

***EDIT*** 5/8/12

This post was just brought up today and I realized that I had taken down the Dropbox link a while back and not refreshed it. I ran the DL link through bit.ly to see how many hits it got since it ended up taking my Dropbox off line due to high traffic. The bit.ly link above seems to go to a page that says it can't be found... Just click the bolded text (see below) next to my name and it'll take you to the DL.

Thank you you guys I have unrooted my phone already but I'm gonna do the SBF because I did rerooted it and unrooted it a way I shouldn't have but it worked but phone has some issues now so I'm gonna do this so it'll be like brand new hopefully as it looks like this process is specific to my verizon droid 3 thought the tool I used had special steps for verizon droid 3 but if I selected to go that route it told me it couldn't find a verizon droid 3 so I clicked no and it went though the process. Thank you everyone for your help I will do this and hopefully fix my performance issues and things just randomly crashing I have phone setup already so it might be a few days before I'm back with how this is working.

Did you SBF yet? If so what OS version did you end up with? I accidentally hosed my contacts up by removing yahoo files. I tried to put them back from another posting but it is still hosed. I'm hoping to restore back to totally factory settings and then re-root and NOT touch the yahoo files.

On a side note what happened to any apps you purchased? were you able to reinstall and use them without having to repurchase?

Thanks!

This has always been true with Android - as long as the phone is logged in to the same Google account used to purchase an app, you can always reinstall without paying again. I have done this countless times.

So far so good over the past few days I've had problems with the phone acting funny so I made it a priority to SBF it right now and I will post again when finished and have all my apps back and if I see any immediate results that show it did something for me. Thank you all for your help I have a tablet here that is bricked I'd like to get help on if anyone is up to the challenge with me but that's gotta be in a different section and I will post a link if allowed when I'm done with my phone along with the status :)

So i think this thread is just about finished I see improvements already I've had one problem but I believe that was on my part and had an issue with programming the phone at setup but finally got it to work and that's done and don't gotta worry about that and so now I'd like to start getting help with a tablet which I can not identify any further than manufacturer which I won't state here as this is not the place for that.

in relation the post doogald made back when this was started I just want to say that I meant that literally the market place had disappeared it existed no where on the phone anymore as I had no app of that sort till after I fixed it and updated then it was there and was even linked to the market button in the phone. so something definetely at this time had gone horribly wrong but that was in the past but wanted to make that clear in case this ever happens to someone and they come across this. :)
