Root Could this App make FM radio work?

I am pretty sure it doesn't have the hardware. This has been discussed before and I haven't seen proof otherwise.

there was a thread that showed the internal components of the phone. and they said that we had the hardware chip (according to qualcomm)

The Qualcomm chip that we have does a radio chip as has been discussed previously.

The app btw in settings has a mode for msm 7x30.

We do have a fm radio. The chip that we have is a QTR8600 Subsytem which is an integrated bluetooth and fm radio. I have pictures of it and can get higher quality pictures. We do have the hardware, but it's a matter of making it work. I don't know if it is deep in the kernel or what.

This has been brought up before in regards to the Motorola FM Radio app (one that works for the Droid Bionic). It was never able to work with our phone. I know up until marc posted those mobo pics, it was assumed that the phone did not have the hardware (sorry for forgetting about that post), but that doesn't mean that app will work any better than others that have been tried. I have no idea what would need done to get it working.

True. I mean we may have the hardware, but it may require a lot of reverse engineering that I'm sure no dev wants to spend time on doing. Maybe if Moto released the source code there would be more of a chance of getting it working, but your best bet right now is to use a online one. Like tune-in or some other app that streams it through the internet.

I just tried enabling the FM radio parts of the CM9 code and then tried this app. It didn't work. I still also just get static. So this leads me to believe one of these options are the issue:

1. They disabled the FM chip in the firmware.
2. It will take more work than just enabling the standard FM Radio code to make it work in cm9 and other versions.

I'm leaning towards option 1, otherwise the stock fm app would have worked and VM/Motorola would be touting it as a feature.

So if it IS option 1, then we are SOL unless we have a chip firmware designer in the house?
