I wonder why it was not noted from the video in the first place that the Incredible had the USB plugged into the side. I am just now seeing that, far into us getting pictures, that we are now talking about it being on the side. I say for all the PI work going on around here.....Fail us.

I agree...of course, I never was really looking for it because it wouldn't matter to me which side it is on, or if it is at the bottom. I know others do, though. As jerky as that video is, unless you go frame by frame it is hard to catch. I was too busy just trying to see the phone for longer than 5 seconds

Yeah. Strange. I'm guessing because it seems very trivial and we were focusing more on the higher priority things (release date, specs, etc.)

Call me crazy but I'd prefer a phone slightly thicker than the Droid Eris but that is only because I have big hands. Plus I wouldn't mind a little extra in the thickness dimension if it was to make room for more memory(HTC: hint hint).

In regards to the thickness talks, those pics posted above are actually all with the back cover completely off I believe...

Here is some news I was gonna post up that I just read, which I'm sure maybe way already covered in the 7 billion pages previously, but I'm not reading back through all of them...

Verizon may delay HTC Incredible, drop rebates on Palm | Electronista

They show all the pics there. Notice the one of the back is the open back showing the battery. In the other pics I believe the back is still off, which would affect how thick it looks to a certain degree. So if that's correct, it's actually even fatter than it looks in those pics, once you put the back cover on that is.

In regards to that news if it hasn't already been discussed, quite interesting. We'll see if that plays out, which will affect a lot of people's buying choices if they already know about the N1 and if the N1 comes out sooner.

this may be off topic, but does HTC or Verizon Wireless read threads such as these?

As another poster stated. I guess we were all focused so hard on finding out other things that it was very easy to overlook stuff like the USB location. That being said, I know it is highly doubtful, but I wonder if there is anything else out there this small in the photos or videos that we have overlooked? Being that another poster also stated there is what seems to be a little light right above the camera....Even though the case would cover this from view. May this be the thing that lets us know that this red back is not the final device. I would like to point out that with all the pictures and videos we have seen in the lower left corner of them all is the tattooed serial number. Should this be an indicator to all of us that this is just prototyping? I hate to speculate so I will not stray like that again. I actually am a fan of the red case. Course my phone like all before it is going in a case. I have had one in mind for sometime now. Case Mate One Tough or the Otterbox Commuter. So either way that red is not going to be seen. ;)

You do realize that everything in that story was ORIGINATED from this thread right? :D;) If you want the latest news, i'd suggest following this thread (which includes reading the past pages) instead of the blogs. This place is way better!

Someone mentioned it could be a possible location for the headphone jack, which explains why the backplate covers it.

just had a theory pop into my melon...

the incredible will be launched same day as the N1 and here is why.

The N1 will be through google and mindless morons who do not think for themselves or know where to look will go to VZW looking for it and the reps in the store will be like "no, we don't carry that phone here, but look we have this shiny red phone that is just as good. plus, if you have any questions you can come ask us and not have to call google and wait on the phone for hours like those saps over @ tmo"

hey, just my opinion I could be wrong

D

I spoke to a VZW rep on the phone and she said sold by both VZW and Google. Not sure if that means in store or online but she said both.

With a name like "Incredible" this device has a lot to live up to and better not disappoint. Look at its company:

Let us NOT forget that Verizon/HTC went with that ridiculous, beveled backplate design. Showing the edge of the phone in hand isn't technically getting a feel for the thickness. Sitting on the table next to the G1 is, but that's with cover off. With respect to DroidDev's comments in Jan, again holding the phone in a cradle like fashion or along the sides probably gives the feel of a thinner phone because of the beveling. That's nice and all, but it all goes out the door in a case where you might want to carry it in your pocket which is my greatest concern with phone thickness. That bulky area where the battery is will make the phone feel every bit as thick as it is at it's thickest point when you slide it in your pocket. Advantage, N1.

Oh, and with respect to the red back, I'm NOT a fan. IMO, the technological appeal of a phone should draw someone's attention, not the glaring orange/red backside. But I'm the type that will use a skin or shell case to protect whatever I get so it's of very little consequence. I actually really like the look of the N1, but under the same premise, that will ultimately get covered up as well (for me).

I am not sure how helpful this might be in giving some more perspective to the thickness of the phone. Captured from the infamous video leak:

To mods who follow this: would it be a big deal to add all new or rumored information to the very first post of this thread? or is it best to simply check phonearena?

The first post is mine so i can update the post to reflect the latest info, but that's what i've been doing. If something is confirmed i list it as confirmed and a link to the exact thread. Everything else is just leads, rumors, etc.... and until something is confirmed i don't see the point in posting it.

I have a different theory as you but kinda the same....

My guess is that the Incredible will be sold same day as the Motorola Devour. It is typical for Verizon to sell I high end phone and a low end phone to consumers to give them options. I have been talking to a rep for a independent store (not held to follow verizon's rules) and they have the Devour now and I almost walked out with it. I was able to hold it and play with it as much as I could without it being activated. This was last week and he stated that he has had the phone for 2 weeks.

I reached out to him this Monday and he stated that there is going to be a phone that is going to be release the same day as the Devour (March 15th). He is awaiting more information from his manager. I also hope that he gets it early as he promised to call me and sell it to me that day. I will post what I can as I get it, but he is 90% sure its another Android phone. Since we know that the N1 is coming around the 23rd time frame, we can only hope that its the Incredible.

It would be nice if HTC kept the phone black and had different covers or themes. HTC Incredibles RED (the one we see in the leeks). HTC Incredible Hulks (a green or red Hulk variant) and not to be left out The HTC Incredible Edible Egg white (HTC-IEE) version which would probably be fan favorite.
I opt for the HTC Hulk version any color with an Android Hulk logo on the back.

It was... Like 3 or 4 pages ago.. I said it

Something to the extent, "I think the phone was plugged in the "Sprint guy" video on the side." and someone confirmed it.

You're right. I was getting ready to post that. We even discussed other phones with USB ports on the side or bottom. Guys, you need to remember that there is probably very little about this phone that we have missed. Everybody is combing over the pics/videos with a fine tooth comb.

If you are referring to my earlier post, as I assume, programming can directly effect how my RAM is used for a program/function. That said, you can only impact it so much, and the industry would rather rely on newer, better hardware than more efficient code. Being the titans that they are, I'd hope Google can give us better code (as has been evidenced by the reports of an overall snapper OS on various devices over various Android upgrades). 256 is still a puny number, and bugs me IF IT IS THE FINAL NUMBER. I'm hoping for more, but the handful of user reports on the Incredible seem to indicate it's snappy nonetheless.
Try watching a video using Flash while doing other tasks simultaneously and let me know how "snappy" the device is. There's a reason Apple prohitibits using of Flash on the iPhone and iPod Touch and that's because it's a memory and resource hog. Good luck watching Flash video on a 256 RAM phone. HTC and Verizon would be moron's to name a phone the Incredible and have that puny an amount of RAM in it. I really hope and pray that's not the final spec, or else I may just jump ship and get the Desire on whatever network it comes out on.

I know this has been said and talked about, but I am going to e-mail VZW again about the N1 and see what response they give me about it being sold and if in-store.
It can't hurt to see the different responses we get. The last e-mail I received back was informative and she definitely confirmed the Incredible (I know we already knew that, but it hasn't been offically confirmed yet) Maybe I'll get something interesting. I will copy and paste the response I get.

EDIT: That is whenever their frickin' website works. Nothing seems to load right on it..

Well that was a little...rude. A simple "actually, that's not really true." would have sufficed just fine. I never professed to be an expert programmer. If you'll look back, I actually stated that I dropped out of my school's CS department because I suck at coding. That was merely my understanding.

Anywho, that RAM isn't a dealbreaker for me either. I want Sense UI though, so I'll most likely take this over the N1...plus, I think the N1 is kinda ugly.

I was trying to be tongue in cheek and then lecture. Not rude. ;)

Verizon used to have chat. I remember when they were coming out with the Palm Treo 700wx I would contact them everyday about a release date. The responses I got were always different. The funny thing is they must have logged my IP because after a month of doing this a CS manager got on the chat service and basically told me to stop contacting them regarding the phone. I thought that was pretty funny.

hahaha they'll have me red flagged lol. This is the only other e-mail I am going to write, but the e-mail page won't load lol. They must know its me! :D

You know, that chin is such a turn-off for me that I forgot about it:rolleyes: You are definitely right about that.

I used to think that about the EU version of the Hero until I held it. It actually felt great while it was next to your ear and I didn't notice it at all in my pocket... but I still looks a bit odd.

Thats promising. If it's the HTC Incredible, sick all the better. I really don't want this device to come out in May, it would be g** just like Verizon (sometimes)

I agree, we should make a new thread with what we know to date and then post strictly post new Incredible related news in that thread. This one is a lot of interesting chat but so hard to keep up with!

Agreed, a lot of chat here, BUT I politely disagree. I said it before. It's Easy-Squeezy, Lemon-Peazy, to just look at the most recent page, rather than have another thread to read. (which, by the way, would also inevitably start getting cluttered)

Hey everybody, I'm new here so forgive me if I'm a bit of a noob. But can someone tell me what the fuss is all about over the Incredible? It seems to me that its a Nexus One with Sense? Or a Desire clone. Is there something else that I'm missing?

I'm lusting after a new Android phone and just want to make sure I'm get something good. I'm contract is up at the end of March and hoping there is something good to get. Either a Nexus One or a Incredible on Verizon or Supersonic on Sprint. THANKS!

Most of us have followed this phone for quite some time now and have opted to wait for this phone because of its specs. I know for me I was interested back in Nov. with the Droid, but instead I decided to wait because I heard rumors of a new phone called the Bravo. The rest is history. I don't want to speak for everyone, but for me "the big fuss" is all about the specs. If Verizon doesn't sell the N1 directly, the Incredible will be the only phone Verizon carries at this time with these specs. :D
