Please list any and all tips for prolonging battery life (LG Connect)

There are multiple threads on the Internet complaining of the poor battery life of MetroPCS's LG Connect. One has to have an AC charger and/or home charger and/or spare charged batteries and/or larger battery with > 1,500 mAH to cope with this if you are a heavy user. A concern in repeatedly replacing the exhausted battery with a new one is that the plastic of the housing and/or back cover will fatigue or break, and no longer stay securely in place.

It would be nice to have a complete list of modifications, other than rooting, which will extend the battery life. Have heard of "Juice Defender" for example.

Thank you.

Everybody please stop posting valuable hints ! The thread is getting too long and too useful.

I put Juice Defender on mine last night and it is helping. I just started with the defaults. I am not rooted.

go to your settings and turn these things off and only turn them on when you need them:

wifi
4g
GPS satellites
use wireless networks
background data
data sync

there are apps on the market that allow you to do these things with a push of a button. look around.

also turn your screen off when you're not using it.

This is important.

Settings>About phone>Battery use

Do you see Swype (or other keyboard) taking the majority of battery use ? This is looks like a serious bug, confirmed by others.
Also confirmed, you could safely use Gingerbread keyboard from the market, it doesn't have this effect.

If you see Swype eating your battery alive, this is the first thing you need to do. You can't leave this hog on and go after some other tricks, this weighs much more than them.

Thanks for that tip man. I'm gonna go and get that keyboard right now. the Lg keyboard I use takes 90 percent of my battery on average.

Absolutely right. Go to market and download Ginger Keyboard and it will save you battery drain. LG Keyboard will drain like crazy. They ne
ed to also fix that problem.

I put in a ticket with LG support last Friday, but I have not heard anything back yet. I just started using the Gingerbread one, so I don't know how well it is going to work for me yet. The LG one, Swype, Swiftkey, and FlexT9 have all drained my battery.

use it to turn 4g off and on as you wish,on the fly.no reboot needed,no "it comes back on after a call" I heard the radio itself is on the processor so im assuming that is why we have this control.the menu itself is hidden i believe.I have not seeing it in any options.but it DOES work,Im on 1xevdo or 1x all day, unless i want to do something fast =D

I can concur on the keyboard.

I tried the LG keyboard, Swype, and I bought SwiftKey...all were at 50% battery use after 2 minutes of use, vs the 50 minutes of standy/etc...

Gingerbread 2.3 keyboard is now installed, charging to 100% (drained to 90% within an hour of mostly standby) to see how it works.

I just got this phone yesterday after having an Optimus M for a long time. I sure miss the battery life on that phone now. I feel like all these gizmos are great on the connect but I feel guilty using them (lol) because it killlls the battery. Screen is dimmed for example. Games kill the battery even when charging, for example...etc...

Can't wait for a ROM for this one.

I use quick settings to turn off 4g
4g toggle works to

I also noticed that Swype was like 50% of my battery usage.

So, I've installed the Gingerbread keyboard. Should I uninstall the LG Keyboard? What about Swype, should I uninstall that. I can't tell if Swype is running anymore.

I took 2 pictures and sent an MMS...and gallery is at 50+% usage.

The battery life on this phone is killing me. With aforementioned pics taken, all battery saving tips in place, and just on standby for 45 minutes - it is down to 85%.

I am thinking of keeping my Optimus M and selling the Connect at a loss. If a phone can't last 16 hours on mostly standy without a charge, without 4G, with juice defender, with a dim screen.....then wtf.

If you install the Gingerbread keyboard and activate it, then the other ones will not be active and will not take up battery. I see no need to uninstall them.

I use tasker to automatically toggle my wifi/bluetooth settings depending on my location. At home and work, wifi is on, data is off, Bluetooth is off. Also, At the moment I use Juice Defender's basic settings. The brightness is set to powersaving.

I get about 12 hours of battery with basic use: couple of calls, SMS, some web browsing and a lot of email checking.

Edit: Also use SETCPU to decrease CPU utilization when the screen is off.

Guess we have someone else with a defective battery. Sux that they send phones out with defects but what do you expect from a cut rate service?

I've been on wifi surfing for almost an hour from a full charge and I'm at 87%. That's crazy if you're that far into your battery and you have everything off and you're on standby.

I saw on the other thread to completely discharge the battery and then plug it in to help with the overheating problem. What exactly does this do? I am wondering because I got a spare battery and don't know if I should do the same to it.

Just got this phone last night. So far I installed Juice Defender Plus with default settings and switched to default LG keyboard. I'm not rooted yet. Wifi & 4G are both on, but Juice Defender turns them off when screen goes off. Battery is at 67% after 6 hours of light use.

i never had this phone get red hot on me but even after running the battery down all the way and then recharging it full the phone would get a bit warm while doing a lot of multitasking.

Watch that keyboard because it has been known to drain the battery as well. You can download the Gingerbread one from the market.

it seems like juicedefender if not set up right can be just as much of a battery drain as anything else. i imagine this being true as the program has to work in the background to shut things off and turn things on.

i dont use it. dont need it. i have "widgetsoid" which gives me a toggle for everything. i keep everything off and can turn everything on easily when i need it.

At 6 hours on battery, the LG Keyboard had used 11% and Swype was also showing 11%. Now at 8 hours, they both show 9%. Had Swype turned off most of the day and confirmed it is not running as a process. I don't see either really draining the battery too quickly. My battery shows 58% now.

I haven't really noticed any excessive heat either.

The LG Keyboard is the biggest battery drainer in Android history (96% of my phone), just replace it with the Gingerbread keyboard, that's it, the rest are just minor adjustments compared with the issue with the LG Keyboard, just replace it and problem solved.

Providers don't make the phones. Phone manufactures do so LG would the company who devolped the phone. Just like any other device kinks need to be worked out.

Took LG a total of three updates to solve the prob. Even on the zvd update you don't need a custom kerenl or rom. W/e they changed was a great change!

Give it time. Hell, the almight iphones have constant updates to.

And everyone uses their phones differently.
