Help HTC Sync suddenly stopped recognising my Desire

JEJeffrey

Lurker
After working fine for months, HTC Sync now claims 'no device connected', and the handset says the equivalent. Not a USB problem, I think, as I can still see the handset in 'My Computer' when I connect as a Disk Drive.

HTC Tech guys have sent me lots of useful advice basically to do with re-installing everything, but after half a day's work there is no change. Any ideas why this might have suddenly happened?

Here's a thing - after sitting on my desk for a few hours, the phone and PC suddenly started talking to one another again. Fine in the short term, but very worrying for the future - what caused it, and what do I do next time? Anybody seen this kind of behaviour before? Is it likely to be a problem in the handset itself?

HTC sync is crap. Use myphone explorer.

Well, based on my experience with HTC Sync I can't disagree! But will I be able to use the HTC Desire in tethered mode with Myphone Explorer? I recently upgraded my Vodafone account to include data just so that I could connect my laptop on the road - Internet on the phone is a waste of time unless you have Superman's eyesight - but according to the HTC manual I need HTC Sync to make tethering work.

It's been a while since I've used a HTC Rom. Does it no longer have WiFi hotspot built in? If not, plenty of apps on the market will allow for WiFi hot spot. There is no actual reason for HTC sync
