Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Well, with the ROM Caddy posted, I am still receiving the Google Login error on boot. Which isn't a big deal since I don't reboot often. Worth the try though. :)

Well since yesterday (another boot or two), my google sign-in appears to be working correctly and the desktop clock now shows my current location instead of Chicago. Things keep improving.

After reading this I rebooted too and I still had to do the google login. I decided to reboot again (after completing the login) and it worked! Login free! To test my luck I rebooted again, same thing. Seems to be working. For now. How odd.

My location was always correct, so I can't confirm anything about the location.

Just restarted, twice, with no sign in request.

I have 2 more bars in signal strength now too.

damnit .. just when i get almost everything working good..... you have to go and say the one thing i really notice that is different... no bars where i used to have 3 bars or more.

i might just run this for the weekend and see if its still good if not i'll reinstall the "tester" version

Anyone having trouble editing the ME (my contact card) contact in People?
I just get a spinning icon that says loading. Is there anyway else to edit it?

Hi everyone. I just created this account after following all of the threads here and on XDA about root and 2.1 updates and many other topics pertaining to the Eris. I haven't really felt the need to post until now.

So, I did the 2.1 update and I am very happy with most of the changes. I have many of the bugs that people are mentioning but none of them bother me very much and I'm sure they will be able to be patched or work-arounds will be found soon enough.

My biggest problem right now is the battery life. Eris battery life was poor on 1.5. Now it is horrible. From reading others' troubles since the update and from my own experience, it seems that it is because of the standby time sucking the life out of the battery while it is looking for service that it doesn't think that it has. I have only 1-2 bars most of the time (after the update) but have had no actual problem with reception. The problem is that the phone keeps looking for a signal and says that the "Time without a signal" is 50%. I know at least a few other people are experiencing this same problem.

Because this is something that other people are experiencing and is a huge problem for at least some people, I was wondering if people that aren't experiencing this problem could list some things that they feel they might have done different during or after the installation. I have tried all of the pertinent *228 options so far to no avail. I'm sure there are other things to try...just need some ideas.

Sorry for the long first post. I appreciate any responses and look forward to participating in discussions with you all. Thanks.

ryan

I don't know if you're going to 'applications' or not, but just so you know, you can clear the cache from inside the browser, you still have to dig for it - but it's just a small shovelful. :)

Yeah--still a pain compared to the long-hold exit on Dolphin. I had Steel set to clear cache automatically upon exit. Thanks, though.

My custom ringtone stays the same after reboot.

Regarding battery life--I just stopped worrying about it and keep it plugged in whenever I can--at work, at home, in the car. If I know I'll be away from an outlet for any period of time, I'll have to think of some other way to keep it juiced like having a spare battery or those aftermarket portable chargers that I read about on airline magazines. Just a fact of life of owning this phone, which I otherwise really enjoy.

I am having the same problem as you ryan, but I've noticed that i can barely charge. I've had mine hooked up to my desktop all day and i've only charged about 50% of the battery. Thinking that maybe something went wrong with the initial load, I reloaded 2.1, and still the same results.

Yeah, omiba, the charging is difficult. I drive all day for my job and I leave it charging while I drive. Normally, the green light is on much of the day. Today it was actually losing (or gaining very slowly) battery life if I was using it while it was charging. I don't mind bad battery life but this is over the top. I have ideas of what the problem could be (2.1 reacting with any settings that might not have been properly erased, a normal bug, a problem with the radio, etc.) but I don't have enough information nor do I know a work-around. Guess we'll see.

I am heavy using with charging on up to 90% put on 1 hour and a half ago my time. Battery seems better for me at least.

Interesting, I'm seeing the very opposite effect. I ran the battery down to 20% around 1:30 so I plugged my phone into the computer. By 3:45 the battery was back up to 90% - it's never charged that fast on the computer before.

You (we) have only had this for 24 hrs +/-, I wonder if the settings just haven't been tweaked enough on your phone yet. Remember how much time you spent playing with settings on 1.5...

For what its worth I upgraded yesterday and I have to say I cant find any of the bugs mentioned here except the Google sign on prompt - no issue with links, no ringtone problems, no issue with email and photos (although I use k-9 app) - it just works.

One question re browser - I always preferred Dolphin too but with Flash support in the stock one how can you justify switching?

After reading the posts about this issue, I was able to update my "Me" contact with no problems.

damn cuz i think i am forgetting who i am and need my phone to remind me.. or i'm just weird and dont like unfinished look of not having my picture in there :)

Which yahoo mail do you use? According to yahoo, the only way you will get yahoo mail forwarded or pushed is to pay for their mail "plus" package. :(

I have the free version. Worked great with 1.5. Also worked great on any of my blackberrys and my iphone.
