Eris to v2.x, when?

Could I format a different SD card for the ROM and then put my other card back in that has all my pics and what not it? Or does the phone always need to see the ROM even after it is installed. Just trying to see if I can get away from reformatting my current SD card.Thanks for any info.
 
You don't need to reformat your SD card at all. Just copy the zip containing the upgrade to it. Any other files on there won't be touched.

Just reminded everyone having issues.

DO NOT Un-ZIP the ZIP File!

When you put it on your SD Card, it has to remain with the .zip extension

In other words, copy the whole .zip file to your SD card then follow the directions.
 
for those that are having issues, which 00IMG file are you downloading?
The one in the tutorial seems to work for some but not all, it could be corrupt
The link i post every few pages is a download file that seems to be a perfectly working 00IMG file that i don't think has failed yet.

Also, i hope you are not trying to open the file or winzip doesn't try to auto open it after you download it. THat WILL BREAK THE SIG.

Just to let those having problems know, I downloaded the one in your sig, the first one the guys lists, and it works. :) TY for repeating yourself every few pages for the new people - I only had 5 pages to wade through that was new when it was leaked, they've got about 20 now! ;)
 
If I go ahead and use the backup tool of astro and back up the apps, then take a different SD card and install 2.1 and then put back the original SD card with astro and all my other stuff on it would this work?

To have the contact list no show the auto Gmail contacts go to: People->menu->view->uncheck show auto Gmail contacts

If you want just My Contacts also check "Only contacts with phone #'s" Its not perfect but if you have people that you only email then give the some #'s or a # in the phone # field and they will show up.

To havegmail not auto save you have to go to gmail settings that you can access from your computer only.

For those having trouble upgrading to 2.1, try this if you haven't. Reformat your sd card using windows quick format but make sure its in fat32 format. I formatted the card using the fone, but it still wouldn't work. As of now, my fone is trying to upgrade to 2.1. It's 4:31am in Cali.. Let's see what time if finishes..
 
Oh snap.. I forgot to report that I have 2.1 on my fone now.. The upgrade finished bout 10 min. ago but I was amazed on how it looked.. But yeah, everything seems to be working good so far.

Thanks Smacky for sharing those N1 so links! The photo gallery is awesome. It works like cool iris and is automatically synced to your picasa album if you have one set up. Thanks again!

This is exactly what happened. The free versions are available, but not nessecarily the purchased versions.

This is a good point. There are certainly back end processes and web services that may not yet be activated for the unreleased update.

Although this is speculation on my part, here are a couple of examples.

The get more HTC widgets link. New to the updated and supporting process may not be activated.

HTML links from applications. This may very well be using and optimization service on Google's back end that may not yet be in place. They may be ready and turned down.

The same may hold true for the embedded pics within Gmail.

Just saying this phone rely a lot on back end processes and some may not be out there yet.


I have no issues with my flash, which I did the night of the leak. I wonder if this has anything to do with folks not being on the MR2 update they flashed ? There has to be a common thread. There are many of us who have had no trouble.
 
After further testing of the N1 gallery, I realize there are glitches. Mainly, it's optimized for faster processor and different screen resolution. There's also an error that occurs ween turning from portrait to landscape. Oh well, still fun to try.
