That is a question a lot of people ask. :) The answer is 'switching off' some features should not be mixed up with 'not using those features'. One switches off these features to increase battery life but switches them on ONLY when they are required.

I tried the OTA & KIES option just now to see if I can re update the firmware (to remove the glitches I mentioned above. The phone says no updates are available :( so looks like I am stuck with what I have
 
hello guys i bought this model a week before n through kies updated it .n it was 100% i still got error n installing but as soon as i checked my device this s wat it showing

android version: 2.3.6

build no: GINGERBREAD.XXLA4

i think my update s done but i want to know its completely done r not...
my device performance is good fast
it has got all the changes which u guys mentioned earlier...but i am not getting the new lock sys
wen my device s connected to sys my torrent app shows that galaxy sII has been connected.......really confused
 
Did a factory reset today hoping the glitches would go. But looks like no luck :( no change at all in performance.
 
Apart from the problems I noticed in post #39. I have noticed that from the last 2 days my battery life is barely a little above 1 day whereas with 2.3.4 it was more than 2 days :(. I am clueless whats happening. I update as this ver was supposed to increase battery performance. :eek: And I cant even re install.
 
Hai friends am using Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 and version is 2.2.1 and there is no update option so that i can update for new versions and its FROYO.DDKC1
 
I wrote to Samsung thru their website yesterday about the problems I have mentioned above this is the answer I got

This is in spite to giving all the details about my self (never mind the problems with my phone) they cant seem to get the details of the nearest service center to me. :(:eek: Why am I surprised as their service locator for Mumbai still shows service centers which have closed down 3-4 years ago. Looks like I have to reduce the Samsung product count in my house from the current number. I always had a good experience with their service for other products till now.

Hi all, i have upgraded my galaxy ace to android 2.3.6 using odin...

i love the changes in interface as mentioned above by some of our frnds...

my problem is that...

1. i'm getting a tone whenever i send a msg ( for last call charge in india)...

2. even if i put my mobile in silent mode and send a msg its vibrating for the same reason, though i have disabled vibration in my settings...

3. for delivery report too i'm getting notification sound...

4. sometimes when i enter into any message suddenly after getting into my inbox, my screen is flashing once or twice and coming out of the particular message.

more than this its cool... but these four things annoying me a lot...

anyone have a solution for this????

These are the problems I faced after I upgraded from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6. I have given my phone to the Authorised Service Center twice in the last two weeks. On both occasions they gave it backs saying problems are fixed but when I check its the same. My problems are

1) Full battery notification sound & icon (in notification bar) does not work.
Update 7-4-2012. This seems to have been solved. See post 67 & 69 below.
2) Battery drains v fast.
3) Noticed that battery charges very fast whereas in the past from 25% to full would take about 1 hour 50 mins to 2 hrs now happens in about 30
 
When I went to the service center the engineer there told me that after typing *#1234#
Showed me this on my phone
PDA: S5830DDKQ8
PHONE: S5830DDKQ8
CSC: S5830DDKQ7
He told me this is the latest s/w (even though I had these problems only after updating OTA). Can others who have updated from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 please confirm if you have the same display after trying out the code AND if you have the same problems as I have listed in post #65 above. I was told by this engineer that points (1) & (4) are now normal for this ver of firmware for the other points I am still testing the phone but I have a strong suspicion that these guys are giving me BS as Samsung India has not released a change log for India for this ver.

Can anyone with the same update please confirm. Also mention your location as I am given t understand that the functionality can change in versions depending on location.

Thanks. Will try that later today but do u hear the notification ringtone & see the battery full icon on the left side like it did in ver 2.3.4?

You are right. I tried it & after about 50 minutes after it showed 'Full Charge' it buzzed to indicate its fully charged & charger can be disconnected with the full battery icon in the notification bar. :D So one problem is solved now I have to see how long the battery lasts after this full charge.

In reply to Josco. I tired ecocharger from the shop, a freebie. It claims to switch charger off when 100%. It does not. It claims to tell you that its full, it said 100% but its nowhere near. I deleted it as it did not do what it said on the tin.
 
For all of those who have problems, just try a reflash with odin or try to clear cache in the recovery menu. I'm running DDKQ8 with absolutely no problems.

I have rooted it. Is there any custom rom for it? or can use custom for
GT s5830?
