Help Samsung S2 problems

PJ0077

Newbie
This is a new post 9/1/12, i just returned my third Galaxy S2 for a full refund!! the thing is a pile of crap, just a warning to all, it has more bugs in it than a bait store.. the dumb thing would think you were touching the screen when you weren't, thought it was the screen protector... it wasn't.. don't buy one!!

say what you will about user error but why would they replace it 3 times after witnessing every error and in the end refunding my cash in full.. also, don't kid yourself, the battery life is crap if you want to use it even as a phone!!

Samsung S2 massive fail.

Two weeks ago I bought a new Samsung Galaxy S2.

After 1.5weeks i needed to get the first unit replace due to a software/battery issue, the thing would last 5hrs max.

It was replaced but my new phone now can't be used with a case! Rang Samsung and they told be the problem was cosmetic, "your joking" I said, "you can't use a case with this phone", the reply was "yes but it needs to be an approved Samsung model, we recommend case mate"... so I say "mate that's the case I'm using, next solution?".... bloke was stumped... Samsung support is not real flash.

So now I'm sitting here and my phone is turning on and off by itself.

I knew I should have got the iPhone. for myself Samsung galaxy s2 is a massive fail, it might be fast but that doesn't compensate for all the problems it has.

Can't be used with a case? I don't get it. Dozens of cases are made for the phone.

Two problem phones in a row is very unusual. Could it be user error? (Just asking....)

I think you've just been spectacularly unlucky. I'd get the second unit replaced and see what happens with the third one. If you still aren't happy then go for the iPhone. I've come from an iPhone and I'm more than happy with my S2. Android is totally alien to me but I'm learning. As for cases I'm using an official Samsung one so I haven't had any problems at all with mine.

Thanks, its a great phone when its not in a case, it works fast and the internet speed is awesome but I'm just worried I'll break it.

You can turn off the noise reduction every call and that stops the echo so "user error" I don't think so, and with my first phone upon return the shop was more than helpful, they took one look at the battery usage screen and just went out the back and gave me a new one.

What has gotten to me through the whole process is samsungs lack of support and the variety of answers you get from the different techs, one says get a new cover, another update the phone then another just flat out says its my fault for putting a case on the phone.

When i call the phone a pile of sh.. I don't really mean it I'm just frustrated with samsung

19/12/11-- just an add on to this link, I will leave it up due to the massive amount of frustration I endured with Samsung support, that all being said I am on my third phone now and am more than happy with it. It has no problems and I am very happy with the performance.

Samsung support needs to take a long hard look at itself.

A cynic would say that the tech support get commission for plugging the "Samsung-approved" cases :P

So what's the problem with using a case? Is it too much noise, or gets too hot, or battery mysteriously drains quicker in a case? Maybe if you specifically state what changes when you put a case on, we can help.

So I am now on my third phone in two and a half weeks. Will see how we go. Was given the option of changing to iPone4 but took note of what you said and thought i'd give it another shot.

Tested this one out in the shop prior to leaving and all good.

Lets hope it lasts.:)

My advice to anyone with any problems with the s2 is, get it back to the shop quick, they have a 14 day swap period, you just rock up, be nice and swap it over.

DON'T CALL SAMSUNG they don't help and try to get out of a return.

I agree on some of what you say: Samsung cannot help: I had problem with Kies: no bloke at samsung support centre was able to help. I figured out ways to make this work: and finally I can say that I am able to help others with Kies problems.

As for the device quality: I disagree based on my experience: one of the best I have used. Maybe you are double-unlucky. Hope yoou wiill be third-time lucky.

Have you tried a different case? 3 phones, and all having the same problem when using the same case should give you some clue.... *hint* *hint*

I don't have any problem and I am just using a very cheap rubber/plastic case.

dude, I'm not stupid, first phone had a battery issue, second phone had an echo with every case i put on it, bought 2 of them and tried 2 others in the shop.. third phone i picked up today, tried it out with the casemate i bought and all good.

The echo problem is a hardware issue i was told by the lady that replaced it. the battery problem was also a hardware issue as the phone was always awake according to the battery usage screen, again from the same lady at the shop.. I'm pretty sure you don't get given 3 replacement phones without them having a know problem...

Yeah, i was given the option of changing to any other phone but i do agree that it is a good phone.

I am impressed with the speed and options on it.

All my negative comments are driven by samsung themselves and there poor customer support and lack of help. after forking out $700AUD the last thing i wanted was weeks of dramas with it.

In the end the positive out weighed the negatives of the phone, i get along really well with the shop i bought it at and if i have any issues i know i can just get it sorted through the same girl.

I just wont call samsung.

You are just unlucky then. Its great that the vendor could exchange it without much hassle. Although if the phone is not going to sleep when the screen is off, usually its a software issue. Either because of the app, or some bug in the OS itself. Never head of it being a hardware. The great thing is you got to exchange the phone without issues, so didn't have to go troubleshooting the thing yourself.

There were post mentioning that the echo was to do with hardware, but most people's cause was because of the case itself. So my opinion you were unlucky to get a defective phone if really is a hardware issue. Maybe the vendor had similar complaints with the batch of phones you gotten and that's why she changed it for you too.

So how is the 3rd one?

Did you get a Full refund after 3units were replaced??
I have a voice call issue (Muffled voice calls and other caller do not hear me well).. Have sent the phone once to Samsung directly and came back with the same fault ! I paid 32Eur just for shipping 1st time...To send it back for the 2nd and 3rd time that's going to cost the price of another smartphone!!

According to their policy ''It has to be checked 3 times before a replacement is provided !!
what about a full refund? :(

I got a full refund when I took my third phone back.

I bought my phone outright and unlocked from a store.

Policy in Australia is if your phone fails within 30 days of buying it or receiving a replacement phone you can return to the place of purchase for a new phone. After the third one stuffed up the shop I bought it from said they would not issue me with another Samsung phone and I had the choice of any other phone. I wanted a iPhone 4s but they did not have one to sell me so they gave me my money back.

During all these problems it really does pay to stay nice and calm when dealing with the shop, I was always up beat about it and in return they were really good to me. But as for dealing with Samsung support over the phone they can all GGF!!!

After trying various methods including Mic assembly replacement just found out that a piece of rubber that is actually sitting on the mic was causing an obstruction, resulting in loss of voice quality.

I attached a photo of the actual part that I have removed and so far it has been restored.
This must be purely a design problem !

gd luck to all.

Well I'm in deep regret now after viewing this post. I've sent for repair instead of request for a new set again. My problem is hang & black screen for no reason, unstable music player & even unable to force shut down unless I plugged out the battery & put it in again. I've been request for new once but problem still exist & again the girl in service center told me most probably due to software problem. Seriously I'm so frustrated with Samsung product & after sales service now. It kinda wasting of time for me to sent back the phone to the service center again & again. More ridiculous is that I wish to find a channel to provide feebback on the problem through mail & I failed. There is no platform for customer to provide their feedback after a thorough search on Samsung official side. Seriously if the phone come back with same problem, I will request for full refund....

I have the exact same cover for my SGS2 (Case-mate), i can tell you now, this case works perfectly as long as the buttons are aligned the the "hard cover" properly, so i would say that if the "case alignment" isnt the issue, i would suggest its the unit!

Samsung support are cr@p though as you say, Ive been having issues with Kies, it works fine apart from when its looking for updates, says "Your device does not support software updating via Kies" - When i spoke to them they suggested it was my machine spec at fault...trying to fob me off, i work in IT Support and had already tried 3 laptops, my PC, my works laptop also all with the same errors, updated drivers etc..I even rebuilt a laptop with WinXP x32 fully updated etc, still not working!

The phone itself is a really nice phone, does everything i want at great speed!, but the software (Kies) and Samsung Support let it down badly!!

Their replace / refund policy is that the phone has to be checked for 3 times !!!
Already sent it once and came back faulty...I just don't dare to waste time & money to send it back. If I had the option I would go for an IPhone.
Their customer service is crap. They do not reply to emails etc ...no solutions nothing!

They let their customers down forever.

I had the option to send the phone again but it is absolutely a waste of time and inconvenience. I solved partially the fault myself so there was no need to send it back. Do note that Samsung support replacement policy is to have the handset sent 3times before they replace your phone!!
I have been chasing for months but getting no where. Gave up and not going to buy a Samsung product again.
This was ridiculous.
