obdii apps... do they exist?

I own a Archos 5 Internet Tablet running Android 1.6. When Archos ungrades to Android 2.1 will I be able to purchase your App?

I've got a G1 with Android 1.6r2 but I'm running Cyanogenmod 4.2.14, which has a lot of things backported to it from 2.0. What specifically is it that you need from 2.0 for the app to work?

is the app available for viewing live sensor data? what is the name of it or what will the name be(if already known) to search for it in the app market?

Not yet, OBDroid will eventually support this, at the moment only the beta versions (not distributed on the market) do

It requires the 2.0 bluetooth support, specifically the ability to search SDP records for an open RFCOMM port, and open it. At the moment I do not plan on supporting 1.6 until I get the live data version up and running, then I can work on backporting.

Unless I can specify on the market to only let people with Cynogenmod download the 1.6 backport, I can not release it, otherwise normal 1.6 users will try it, have it fail, and complain.

Which obd1? I would support ALDL if they made a bluetooth adapter for it, but every car has a dikfferent protocol so I would only be able to support mine.

Is there any way I can try it to see if it works? I don't know if that's one of the things that was backported or not, but if I try it and it works, maybe I can see if there's a way for Cyanogenmod users to spoof their version of Android for the Market or something so that you don't have to deal with regular 1.6 users not understanding why it doesn't work, while adding support for Cyanogenmod users.

Unfortunately not, if I specify 1.6 support in the XML file to allow it to load on an older version, it will not compile due to a lack of bluetooth in 1.6. If you can figure out how to spoof your version, I'll email you a copy of the app to try.

2.1 support?

It should work in 2.1, are you having issues with it?

I've released Version 1.0 of OBDroid-Pro, which has live-data display of a couple OBD2 parameters. I am working on adding datalogging, as well as the ability to change what is displayed/logged.

What's the difference between the free and paid versions? Needed a code reader today. $53 for the bluetooth isn't bad. Neither is $3 for your app. Just wondering the difference....

Thx

I have not tried this particular app but from the androlib descriptions it looks like the free version only reads codes as where the paid will also clear them. I believe they both perform other data functions.

Seriously the elm327 says it "might" not work for vw, audi, and some subaru models.

that's just great we have a vw passat and a subaru impreza .... Wonderful

Correct. The free version can only read codes, nothing else. The paid version can read and clear codes, as well as viewing live data.

I have to find out if the elm327 will work with my car. plus your app still doesn't show up in my market (leaked 2.1) but its in my wifes droid... Ahhhh waiting for the unofficial to become official.

Anyone have more info on the elm327 bluetooth ?

ELM327 compatible scantools will work with any OBD2 compliant car, so you need to find out if your car is OBD2 complaint. Since you are in the usa, it's fairly easy. If your car is gasoline, 1997 or later, and under 8500GVW, then it is definitely OBD2 compliant. If it is 1995-1996, it's kinda a gray area, it may or may not be, but probably not. If it's pre 1995, then it's definitely not compliant.

Cool ya I knew it was obd2 just all the info sometimes says "might"not work with some vw and subaru cars for, I guess, it was a off brand elm327. Cool now I will order one. cuz it will also work with my laptop obd2 software.

Thx malcom

Oh hey if I buy your app on my wifes droid can I back it up and put it on my phone? Or wait till my 2.1 is official?

i will assume this one is the working one for all cars obd2 as it says....

If you buy an app on one phone, you can not move it to another phone, that's akin to piracy. That's at your discretion of course, since I can't regulate what people can/can not do.

That scan tool should work. It is a chinese knockoff, but one of my friends has tested my app with it and it works fine at least with his car.

Ok then I'll wait for it to show up in my market. I don't wanna pirate your app..

If that's a knock off, what's the real one?

Thanks so much for cooking up an ODB-II app. I was looking at investing in a kiwi wifi and getting rev for an ipod touch just so i could get boost and temperature information, but this looks like it will do just fine.

Are you looking at developing as far as Rev for the iPhone? Features such as: multiple gauges onscreen at once, data logging

Ideally I'd like to have boost, and coolant temp running with easy to read gauges so I have the info I need while autocrossing :) thanks again, and look forward to hearing from you.

I already have the tactrix openport cable v1.3m (odb to usb cable, similar to vagcom) will this work with your app? Also wondering how many obd protocols it can read and how fast it can recieve and display data and how much can it receive at once without slowing down too much. It'd be cool if you can read things like manifold pressure engine speed, engine load, a/f ratio (for those of us with widebands) and maybe even knock correction parameters.
I'd also like to see gps incorporated into this so you can log data and then review corner by corner your laps when your at the track.

I don't know what kind of car you drive, but do you have any interest in making a Subaru specific app that uses Subaru's proprietary SSM protocols instead of the much slow odbii? Subaru SSM is read over the odbii port but is able to send a greater amount of data and at a much faster sampling rate than odbii.
There is already an opensource project called romraider (www.romraider.com) that has successfully figured out how to read and tune the subaru ecu, lots of info is there probably saving you a lot of work from that start. Any interest in attempting an app like this?
