Help Can't download/update Adobe Flash after ICS update on Galaxy S2 (o2 in UK)

by_tor

Newbie
I just downloaded and installed the ICS update from O2 via Kies for my SGS2. It seemed to go OK. However I found that flash video (eg on the BBC News website) was no longer working after the update. I had read about this before and heard that you needed to do a Flash update too.

I went to the Google Play store and searched for Adobe Flash and it said "update available". However when I tried to update, I got an error message "your order is processing. your item will be available in a few minutes". However the screen says "downloading" but nothing happens.

I also tried to completely uninstall Flash so I could try reinstalling it again. I got the same message, although when I reset the phone (power off-on) the Flash appeared to have been uninstalled. I tried to re-download it but just get the same error message as above.

I can download and update other apps OK from Google Play.

Any ideas?

thanks

I believe that Flash isn't supported in ICS so you won't be able to install any updates.

I don't think that is the case. If you go to the Google Play store and search for Adobe Flash Player 11 and look at What's New they state:

What's in this version:
This update to Adobe Flash Player 11 includes compatibility with Android 4 supported devices, performance improvements and bug fixes related to security and stability. The complete set of release notes can be found at: http://adobe.ly/s16mAX.

I've seen a number of posts on various forums mentioning about Flash after ICS upgrade and most seem to suggest that upgrading to latest Flash player should solve it. My problem is I can't complete the upgrade!!

I have been having the same problem, being on 02 and updated to ics android 4.0.3 yesterday.

I managed to install adobe flash player by doing the following:

Download and Install "Google Chrome to Phone" from Play store on your phone.

Then on your computer go to https://play.google.com/store.

Log-in using your Gmail username and password.

Search for "Adobe Flash Player", and select it.

Click on the button that says "Install" or "Installed"

Then select the phone/device and click "Install"

Give it a few seconds and it should start downloading to your phone.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ishaq. Just by chance before I read your reply, I tried exactly what you said (except I already had Chrome to phone installed anyway).

I never in a million years thought it would work but I went to the Google Play store on the PC (since they have just added a link on the black google bar now!) and downloaded the Flash Player 11 from there. After turning on my phone it successfully was downloaded and works!

Whoopee! :D
