Help Guidance needed on downloading and space

Hello,
I just bought my teenager a Wildfire plus a mini SD card with 16 GB memory. If I understand correctly, we need to get apps and music installed onto the mini SD card. However I am confused about how we do this. Do we need to take the mini SD out of the phone and download to it while it's inside a computer? Do we need some sort of hardware to do this? I thought we could just download straight to the phone but that does not seem to work. I realize this is probably a very basic question - thank you for any help you can give two greenhorns.

No if you download directly from the phone, it should automatically save on the SD card as far as music is concerned.
For apps, you need to manually move them to the SD card. However not all apps are movable. To do so, do the following:
Settings>applications>manage applications>Select the app you want to move.
If the app can be move to the SD card, there will be the button "Move to SD Card"
An easier way is
Settings>Storage> Manage Space (I think)
I'm using Cyanogen now so Don't remember exactly the steps anymore

Thank you! We will give that a try. If we want to put music on the phone that is already on our laptop, could someone help me with the directions for doing so? Many thanks.

To put music / pics on your Wildfire from your PC just plug your phone into the USB goto Setting > Connect to PC > Default connect type > select "Disk Drive". You'll then be able to see your phone in My Computer as a Storage device. Uou can then drag and drop your music / pics into the media folder.

Alternatively if you use iTunes you can download iSynchr from the Market and use it to synchronise your playlists with the phone just as though it was an iPod or iPhone. You can also use Windows Media Player if you have your playlists there.

I am having trouble getting apps onto the SD Card also. Bought a large 32G SD Card, it shows 29.71 Total Space, but I just can't seem to move anything over to it. FB and other apps take up soo much room that the RAM is always maxed out and then updated cannot install due to low storage. Somewhere I read that the SD Card needs to be formatted before one can use it but I don't know the magic button or chant to accomplish this either. I have this wonderful HTC Wildfire S Android phone for FB, multiple e-mails, contacts, calendar / appointments, and calls of course.

What do I need to do to free up the main RAM and get everything possible onto the SD Card? Can't even add any more apps.

Thank you.

None of the apps that were on the phone originally can be moved, nor can some from the Market. You should be able to move most of the ones you've downloaded. Go to Settings/SD and phone storage/Make more space then click Next then Move apps to SD card and it will tell you which you can move.

Or you can go to Settings/Applications/Manage applications then you can go through them all and you can see any that can be moved.

Just one thought though, where did you get your SD card? As apparently there are some dodgy cards about.

SD Card was purchased at Best Buy. They had tons of SD Cards. Cannot remember the manufacturer though.

I have downloaded very few apps. When I go to the Settings/Applications/Manage applications, some apps show on the SD Card but most are on the on board storage RAM and the move to SD button is grayed out.

I've been able to get temporary relief by removing apps, like FB, then cleaning up storage and letting them auto download. But when there are updates I run into the same space unavailable problem again. Very frustrating.

Thanks for any help.

I tend to try apps and, if they can't be moved to the SD card I uninstall them again because there are usually alternatives that can be moved.

Currently I have downloaded 12 apps of which 10 are on the card and I have over 60mb internal storage free

How did you remove Face Book? I never use it so would like to get rid of it.

Facebook and other social networking apps can't be removed without rooting the device. It can be halted as to services, etc by configuring in the menu to manually sync rather than auto sync.

That's what I thought, so I asked Lucky0311 as they said they had uninstalled it then installed it again.

Uninstall may be overstating it. It gives me the option to uninstall updates, which seems to clear the FB app. That frees up about 6MB to 10MB of internal memory. FB reinstalls once you login to FB the next time.

Everyone is talking about root. Where do I find how to do that on the Wildfire S?
