Help Text Messaging Smiley Face

Ok so this is one thing that has bugged me a little the whole time I've owned my Nexus

When I'm in the stock text messaging program and stock keyboard there is a smiley face instead of an Enter button.. I downloaded a better keyboard and perfect keyboard and they both have an option to disable the smiley and have an enter key. But when in the text messaging app if you hit the enter key it just sends the message

I don't want a smiley face I use enter to create text messages with lists etc.. I've looked all around for a fix to this and haven't had any luck I know it's got to be an easy way to get a working enter key in the text messaging program . And I prefer the stock keyboard and app
 
Handcent SMS has an enter key that works on the keyboard. It also has an android theme for the message display (it is burried in bubble settings).

Yup, use Handcent. If you do happen to like the smileys, you can d/l the Emoji plugin. That's the smileys you see on the iPhone.

But yeah, I think it's a setting you have to change.. not sure. But I've always had mine set to be an enter button and it just moves the line down (like it should).
 
The only problem I've found with handcent is the lag in the conversation list window. But I really think the iPhone has the best texting UI so I put up with that little lag.
 
Yeah I've used handcent up until I got my Nexus . Was trying to stay away from it but I'll just do that . I have no use for smileys I use enter much more
