Root Changing Desire HBOOT, Advice / Help

Hi, after playing with a few ROM's ive noticed alot of them require you to have the CM7r2 HBOOT on your desire, my current HBOOT is Revolutionary 6.93.1002, just want to know how easy it would be to change to the CM7 HBOOT and the procedure for doing this.

Just for the record and to save any further questions I am already S-OFF too.

You download the hboot of your choice from the Alpharev website then fastboot flash it. See my fastboot faq (skip the adb section) in the "all things root guide" sticky

As easy as that hey ? I was looking at them on the Alpharev website and it was going on about checking sizes of caches and partitions etc.

It's as simple as that to flash the hboot. But note the rest of the instructions in the FAQ or on the alpharev site if you want your phone to boot afterwards, i.e. the stuff about taking a nandroid before, restoring afterwards, etc.

Thanks, ive just done a backup, and also backed up the contents of my sd card to my PC, just dont quite understand the part on the apharev site, hang on i'll copy and past it:

"Please read the entire table and pick the partition table with the correct sizes for your ROM. One easy way to switch partition tables, is to nandroid backup,
and verify that the sizes of your backup are indeed the ones listed in the table (or smaller), and restore after flashing hboot."

My curret Backup is 587mb, but the original rom I flashed is 254mb, this applies to the stock HBOOT on that table, would I still beable to flash the smaller CM7r2 HBOOT ? and would this mean I could change it back at a later date, obviously according to this table the CM7 ROMs are smaller, but the rom i want to flash requires the cm7r2 hboot.

Download "Quick system Info" from the market and see how much of your system partition is being used. Then choose a hboot with a system suze that will fit your rom in.

So is what you are saying, as long as my ROM fits inside it then, I wouldnt need to change my HBOOT, the CM7 ROMS are alot smaller than my current ROM, so could I just stick it in my stock HBOOT ?

you could indeed, but if you were to change the hboot you would have less wasted space from system that is then used for data (your apps) basically.

You dont HAVE to change it, but to make the most of some of these roms its a very good way to reclaim wasted space.
