Help Music Apps not seeing all my music?

I bought a 32GB SD card and dumped about 15GB worth of music onto it. For some reason, none of the music apps I've tried (stock music player, Google Play or Double Twist) show more than a few of the songs in the library (in fact, they all show the same songs).

It is not a defective card. If I open the /SD Card/Music folder I can see all my music and play them by clicking on the file. I think maybe I just deluged my phone with too many files?

Is there a simple way to get my phone to scan the card again or something?

Otherwise, I'm planing on deleting all the music and loading it up again a few smaller chunks at a time, or experimenting with Winamp's wireless option.

Look in your file manager for your music files, and make sure they're there. If they are, try restarting your phone. I've had a similar problem where my music files where in my phone, yet some didn't show in my music player until I restarted my phone.

As I mentioned, I did check my file manager and indeed, all the songs are there.

I tried powering down repeatedly and even tried removing and reinserting the SD card. Nothing worked.

Finally, I deleted all the music and have since added the music back just a few hundred files at a time and so far (knock wood) it has been working. I must have swamped the phone with all those MP3s.

There IS a way to rescan the card, and it's called SD Rescan. Either that or you have to reboot the phone...make me feel better about my Warp and please tell me you did neither...

What is that? Something in settings or an app? (Nevermind. I found the App in Google Play. I'm gonna have to download that for future use. Actually, I downloaded one called Rescan SD Card!

By reboot, do you mean power off? If so, I'm afraid I did. Multiple times. I also yanked the SD card and replaced it with the original 2GB card, then pulled the 2GB and put the 32GB back. Nothing worked.

I have a feeling one of the SD rescan programs would have fixed the problem.

I'm using a program on Windows called iExporter. It finds playlists in iTunes and extracts all the MP3s on a selected playlist. Using that, I have moved 2 different playlists of about 400 songs each onto my SD card. So far the music apps are recognizing everything. I have one last playlist that has 1500 songs. I'm gonna wait for the weekend and transfer that one over. That way if problems crop up I can spend hours fixing it and not be so frustrated on a work night.

Just as long as the mp3's are really mp3's. Android doesn't seem to play well with foreign or proprietary audio formats, probably because they don't like getting sued.

SD Rescan invokes scanning the SD card, I guess...for music, mostly. I've never seen anything else in the system not pick up on recently added content like Android and music. Maybe if you used DoubleTwist for syncing your phone would like you more...

Edit: you DID use Double Twist. Oops. For syncing though?

I did add Double Twist, but then I figured it out by adding slightly less MP3s at a time. So I uninstalled Double Twist.

I did install Google Play Music though. I haven't done much with it yet, but I did let it upload all of my MP3s this weekend.

Something else you can try is to find the mp3s in the file explorer, long press on a file, then choose 'open as audio' and see if the songs are playable.

If all that works, it try unmounting the card, removing it from phone, reboot with a battery pull, insert card, and see if it rescans and finds the files.

Using the default player I can not find any settings menu. The only thing that pops up is party shuffle or shuffle all.

I tried all that MULTIPLE times as explained in my posts above. Sorry if I sound jerky. I just keep seeing the same solutions offered even when I explain ahead of time that I have tried that.

I haven't put my biggest playlist back on the SD card yet (I'll do it this weekend) but so far what worked for me is deleting all my files and then adding them back just a few at a time. Not the most elegant solution, but sadly, it is the one that works (so far, fingers crossed).

I forgot to ask properly: did you sync with DoubleTwist? That's its flagship feature, and that at least should guarantee the media is transferred properly. Probably.

Unfortunately using a file explorer only tells you whether the system can play the music, not if it has been properly catalogued. (For un-added music, switching away from the music app will cause the phone to stop playing it.)

I dropped that method of putting music on an SD card a while ago when I found out about Google Play Music (as they call it now). You upload your music on to a Google cloud then dl the app and use your gmail account tied to the cloud with all your music on it and viola, you have all your music (up to 20,000 songs) on your phone without using any storage. Has worked flawlessly for me but do note that you have to have a data or wifi connection because its pretty much streaming music but it also caches some songs to play if you don't have a good connection but most of the time you shouldn't have a big problem if you at least have 1-2 bars

I had the exact same problem as you, except that I had done the transfer by removing the memory card from my phone, placing it into the card slot of my pc and also by using a USB card reader and copying the files. One of the larger batches that got transfered had a bunch of files that could be found via the file search of the memory card but not by the music player or any third party player. I went through this procedure from my phone's home screen:
menu button>settings>storage>unmount card>mount card

After that, all music players found all the songs.
