why do you think the IPS display is false? do you mean to say it is probably an amoled varient? or are you just stating IPS is not S LCD-2

i'm putting my money on SLCD-2

I have no doubt that it's an LCD.

As I've said, S-LCD 2 is not descriptive -

Problem here is that SLCD-2, like the Super LCD moniker before it, is a marketing term. Neither are LCD technology terms, they indicate zero about quality or how the screen actually works.

Using the 3D as an example, many of us got Sharp panels, using ASV technology with nearly correct gamma adjustments. Meanwhile, many others got a really crappy substitute and believe to this day that the 3D screen was total trash.

Yet the 3D was spec'd with the famous Super LCD, and because there is no such thing, no spec violation occurred.

That's the issue that I have here - I absolutely prefer a high quality LCD panel, but because there's no such thing as SLCD-2, the door is open to pull the same stunt.

Apple focused on an actual technology name and because Android makers didn't, the blogosphere of self-proclaimed experts declared IPS superiority over all SLCD, which according to many of those bozos, LCD types are: IPS, SLCD and TFT-LCD. One was a technology, one a marketing term and the last is the class of most all LCD displays. So, they compared something, but they never knew what it was.

Whatever technology the One X is using for LCD seems exciting, but it would be nice to know what it is.

So far as I know, the idea that it's IPS started with German kids -

LCD vs IPS vs AMOLED: HTC One X, S and LG Optimus 4X screens compared | Android Community

That turned into the instant meme that HTC is using IPS but can't call it that due to copyrights -

LCD vs IPS vs AMOLED: HTC One X, S and LG Optimus 4X screens compared | Google Android news

Regarding the info in the articles above.

Many say that the screen is made by Samsung, in which case it would likely be a PLS panel, not IPS. Both describe specific technologies, not copyrighted marketing names.

TFT LCD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I found the idea of using a microscope to determine internal electro-chemical compositions, ummm, interesting, to say the least.

And saying LCD vs IPS vs AMOLED is exactly like saying Chevrolet vs Corvette vs Ford.

Saying that Samsung is supplying IPS but HTC can't call it that for copyright reasons is exactly like saying that we don't call rowboats trucks for copyright reasons.

I can't believe all of the "Super IPS of LCD-2" and equal gobbletygook I run into across the web as instant experts hilariously mis-explain screen technology.

PS - here is what S-LCD really means -

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=S-LCD

The S stood for S.

Two years ago, some dumb blogger decided that it stood for Super, when it never did.

HTC responded by changing its website to say that they used Super LCD.

If some marketing head tomorrow says that it's an IPS display, I won't believe it until I hear the name of the fab producing the panels.

Marketing guys will say anything.

Just to correct, they'll say anything that sells. They won't just arbitrarily say anything...LOL

Lma0 fair enough! But because we all exhibit traces of the Stockholm Syndrome, they can say anything about the screen and we'll eat it up as news! :) :D

And that back photo is interesting. As many of us recall, kickstand placement on the Evo was determined by the battery position and the chassis itself.

A Thunderbolt kickstand would have been really great...

PS - what's with the rear speaker grill?

And removable cover?

And pixelating around the camera?

i found a picture of the BACK ;)

mmm sexyyy

ROFLMAO...Although I have loved the MoPho and Motorola's knack for making accessories, I have to say that I do miss the HTC EVO brothers and sisters, as well as the antics that come along with it.

That's just too hilarious.

EarlyMon, from what I remember, our EVO 4G had that rear speaker grill. At least, I remember it being there on my white EVO.

Ja wohl, the 3D has a rear speaker as well.

On the One X, it's near the bottom, not next to the camera.

Evidently, on the HTC Evo One, day before launch, anything is possible.

Surely many remember our epic next-Evo design thread, and my idea for two batteries, so you can hot swap one of them.

Clearly, that's why they have two, one on either side of the kickstand. ;)

Apologies for carrying on the troll, I just thought it was too funny. :) ;)

And unlike the Evo and 3D launches, we haven't had the requisite trolling - yet. :p

This kickstand case for the 3D never materialized, I wrote HTC and they had no idea what I was talking about.

If the Evo One lacks a kickstand, I'd be ok with a good substitute.

Bahaha. With all the anxiety for tomorrow thanks for the laughs guys. Now I remember why I love this community. I absolutely love this time of year. Tomorrow can't come any quicker.

I really wanted that kickstand. I was so mad when they decided not to sell it. I am surprised we haven't had that person, BS, with his big tall stories. I have admit, he was good at telling them. lol

Interesting pictures, supports the Pocketnow shots from yesterday.

Looking like Covert_Death got the kickstand mostly right.

But seriously - can the ultra hip, anti-Sense bloggers please move out of their parents basements and just shut up about how superior they are to Sense? I have been hearing the bleating of that flock since Eclair.

To the bloggers who read our pre-release threads (yes, you, you're not fooling anyone) - root and lose Sense if you don't prefer it. We get it. For the millionth boring time.

Android is all about choice.

Just tell us how the phone does, not how hip you are to Ice Cream.

Yep, as I noted above. :D

Oh well, we'll know for sure during the daytime.

I didn't see a Beats logo on the back, and Owen didn't say how they came by it or how long they had it.

Wonder if that white block is hiding an ID?
