Help Poor performance when uptime exceeds 3 days

Ever notice how horrible the performance of this phone becomes if you haven't turned it off in a few days?

I know the manual recommends powering it off once a days but I've kept it on for over 3 days in a row a few times and noticed a few issues

  • Email sync stops working intermittently
  • Incoming text messages never show. I had to reboot and Bam texts that were sent to me the day before mysteriously appeared even though people were still receiving the text messages I sent during that time
  • Horribly slow browsing

anyone else noticed these and other problems?

Most computers (and smart phones are computers) benefit from frequent restarting.

I think it is a major flaw that a reboot cannot be scheduled without rooting the phone. That should be a simple choice on every smart phone.

Yup. I've noticed. Majority of the time, I'm swapping batteries at the end of the day anyway, but whenever I've been on road trips for the weekend and wasn't powering the phone on and off, I've noticed the performance slip a little (just enough to be irritating, but not horrible).

Nontheless, I make it a habit of powering the phone down and back up at the end of day (no matter what) or sometimes first thing in the morning, just to make sure everything re-sync's properly.

hummm never noticed that....

maybe i dont notice a drop....

and i will go weeks with out shutting her down...

maybe i need to try powering down once a day...

My wife uses an HTC EVO Shift. It will run for weeks without a reboot with no apparent difficulty (it also will run an average two days between charges). But my Photon will begin to act up if it is not rebooted frequently.

Your best bet is to just turn it off when you are asleep. Leaving it on 99% of the time doesn't just tax your RAM, but the battery is constantly cycling (either charging or discharging, both create heat). Turn it off each night, unless you know you need to leave it on for whatever reason once in a while, and give your battery a break.

Of course, that won't happen until the ICS update finally arrives... :)

It also depends on the user and how she uses the phone. A relative of mine has the EVO Shift and has memory and lag problems all the time (similar to some issues I had with my evo).

Can't do that. Need to be available 24/7 for business purposes.

Hmmm... It's too bad you can't do Google Voice over Internet. You could just use two phones with a shared number, but that would require a second line. If you have a second phone line available, make your GV number your standard buisness contact number and it will ring to all phones associated with it. A bit of a workaround but that is what it is for.

I use my phone as an alarm clock as it will still ring if the power is out whereas a phone plugged into the wall will not, even if it has battery backup. I do have a battery powered "atomic" clock on my nightstand but it is not loud enough to wake me up...

...which means I'm really stabby when I'm dozing and then all of a sudden *bam* I get five crap emails around 5 AM and it wakes me up. (I probably should go into the settings and set it to not notify me of anything but a phone call or text message until 6:30 or something like that.)

I never Shut mine down for 5 days at a time and never had a slow problem! And my GF's Evo 3D Sucked battery down quick and sucked compared to my photon!

If u gotta turn phone off all night everynight then i wouldn't buy this phone lol that is a lie no need for that people have unexpected Emergency's.
