Help Battery Issues - Is it my phone?

I've got a triumph that has potentially gone through 3 batteries. Virgin is shipping me another one right now, but here's my story.

Stock Battery: Slowly died and now won't charge. Phone will still turn on with it in, but unplugging from power will cause it to die almost immediately.

Virgin Replacement: Appeared Dead on Arrival. When I tried to use it my phone wouldn't turn on and appeared not to charge. If I hit power the battery symbol would flash with no charge and a red lightning bolt.

Purchased battery: Next, I bought this. I used it for the last month and then out of the blue it just stopped working. It was working great with good battery life. Now, it has the same symptoms as the Virgin Replacement.



I've now called Virgin up and they are sending me another replacement. However, I'm worried my phone may be causing this. Though I don't think it's relevant, I'm running CM9.

Sorry, I know nothing about this issue (you very likely know more about the Triumph than I do), but I do have plenty of sympathy available, along with virtual cookies .

I'll be paying attention to this thread myself, in case DH or I run into such problems.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having battery problems. I've had my triumph since they came out. One battery died right off the bat and got it replaced. No problem with the new battery. It had been working find for the 7 months or so I've had the phone up until now. About a month ago I ordered one of these: Amazon.com: [Aftermarket Product] 1600mAh 1600 mAh Battery Standard Backup Spare Extra Power Replace Replacement For Motorola Triumph WX435 Huawei Ideos X6: Cell Phones & Accessories just to see if it would last longer than the battery I had. It seemed to last about as long but worked just as well so I stuck with it. That seemed to work great for about three weeks and then it suddenly crapped out one day and will not work at all anymore. Last week my phone had issues and it needed to be replaced. I called up Virgin and they shipped me a replacement phone but no new battery. I switched over to the new phone and put the old battery in the new phone (The one from 7 months or so ago, still working fine). Then the first night of having the new phone (last night), I plugged in my phone to charge like I do every night. Sometime around 6am this morning while I was still sleeping I heard the "Virgin Mobile" music playing signifying the phone turning off. I went back to sleep, woke up later and noticed the phone was dead. Ok, I thought maybe I didn't plug it in right last night. Low and behold nothing I could do would make the phone charge or turn back on for more than a minute. I got the same problem you're having with your virgin replacement battery. It really screwed me today since today was the one day I really needed my phone. I guess tomorrow I will have to try to get a new battery, but it is odd so many batteries would be dying. Is it a defect with batteries or the phone doing something it's not supposed to that causes the batteries to die? It seems like it almost must be a problem with the phone because it's not just one brand of battery it seems to be at least three. I'm surprised not more people are having this problem. It seems to have happened with your phone and 2 different phones of mine.

You can operate the phone without a battery if it is plugged into an external power source; does it work that way?

- Wipe battery stats, especially when switching batteries
- Ensure your connection is solid
- Plug into wall adapter, not PC USB as USB power delivery varies by motherboard

mine does not work with or without the battery when it's plugged in. I've also tried with several different chargers too

you can't operate android phones without a battery even if it is plugged into an external power supply.

I did it on my and my wife's phones a few times yesterday (just received three batteries and wanted to ensure they worked). Battery Spy even notices the battery change in real-time.

on topic: it must be your phone, my phone and probably others as well is running fine, no battery issues like yours. have you tried battery calibrating like rolo42 suggested(wiping battery stats)? if you have, i suggest you contact Virgin Mobile on this.

That's almost exactly what I was doing while progressing down the thread lol

I mean there is always the chance you got defective batteries but 3 in a row is crazyness

There is always the possibility, your adapter or USB cable is bad.

Motorola and VM can't really do much for us in the way of providing a patch...

What they can do, and call them on this, neither corporate site shows the OEM replacement battery. And lo-and-behold, the User Guide says don't use anything but an OEM battery.

Tell them your battery is not holding a charge well. They may ship one to you gratis.

Imagine, Motorola's site doesn't show the OEM replacement battery available for purchase. A consumable. What a hoot.

That annoys me, that neither of the relevant companies offer OEM batteries for purchase. I'm currently keeping an eye on discussions of after-market replacements (wondering if higher mah would translate to longer life).
