Root [CDMA] help changing firmware

I just bought an evo 3D, and it's a hong kong edition, since i'm currently living in China. Does anyone know a way, or even if it's possible, to wipe the device, and install the U.S. or Canada version of the firmware?

Theoretically you could flash a Rogers' (it's a canadian carrier) RUU and that should put all their firmware and software on your phone. However, I think you would have a high chance of bricking the phone. Or making it so it would only be able to make calls on Rogers.

I think you might be better off installing a GSM ROM. It'll replace the version of Android you have with a western version. It should also allow you to keep your service.

Thanks for the advice. I've been doing some research, and I think my best option is simply to return the device to the vendor, as the Hong Kong version simply doesn't cut it. Not only do I run these risks by trying to change its settings, I also cannot update to ICS without losing the 3D functionality. I will repurchase an American or Canadian version from a new vendor.

I think you made a wise decision.
