Help Pros and cons to upgrading to ATT gingerbread on infuse

I'm on stock froyo, rooted via superoneclick. Over the last few months, I'm noticing a lot more laggy behaviour from the phone and am getting a lot of forced closes in the browser. I'd also like to be able to video chat on skype with the front camera, something froyo won't allow.

I'm interested in upgrading to gingerbread now that it's officially out for the ATT infuse, but I'm a little concerned by posts I'm reading about lagging on upgraded phones. I have a little widget that I use a lot to switch my wifi and wireless data on and off, will I lose that ability in GB?

I've been prowling the net looking for comments from people who have upgraded, but so far, I am not able to get a feel for whether most people are experiencing problems or whether GB is running smoothly on their phones. I'd welcome input on whether to upgrade now or wait a while to see if any patches come out.

Haha, you know were im going... install a custom rom if you want little to no lag. They have ICS on the infuse working now, and its awesome! Im running it right now.

I think it's great if you choose to use a custom rom, but I too would like to hear more about experiences with the official GB update on a stock phone. I thought it odd there hasn't been much comment about it here. Maybe few have tried it.

My thoughts exactly. Custom ROMs are great but have their limitations, like the GB one from rogers that doesn't support HDMI out. I am interested in hearing from folks who have tried the new ATT GB release.

I'm with somanyapps and pendragon1998 on this. I'm still on froyo and will likely stay that way. I've rooted using superoneclick and have had no problem whatsoever. Phone continues working well and with no lag. Besides, with the phone rooted, I can tether and use it as a hotspot. I've only done that twice in the past year, but it came in very handy. I think I'll stick with froyo until my AT&T contract ends in about 12 months. I may leave AT&T then.

As an aside, I think I figured out what was causing my froyo lagging. For me now, the only real reason I would want a custom ROM or GB would be so I can video chat using the front camera in skype. I'm going to be out of town for an extended period and it would be nice to see my wife's face.

My advice is don't do it yet. There's still some bugs. My battery life sucks after the update. Now I'm barely able to to get one's days worth out of it with the same settings and and same amount of activity as before. Also, I've sent out a couple of MMS messages that have come back as undeliverable, even though I've had no problems before. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. On top of that, my screen's sensitivity seems to has suffered; I sometimes have to tap twice to have the touch register, where as before I had no trouble at all!

So, AT&t... What gives?!? After the long wait to upgrade I'm getting ready to chunk it and go with another carrier!

per the upgrade instructions, the full version preload of angry birds disappeared.

Also per the instructions, in the status pull-down, the silent, button was replaced with the airplane mode button. I think that is about a 50/50. I will try to find a widget that does silent, cause I use that alot.

the biggest con is that the look of the default mail app has changed. when in the list view of your inbox, the checkboxes to do multi-sleect are gone. (this is why I am in this forum, trying to find a way to multiselect)

I didn't know about skype being disabeld, I just thought it was buggy, like no matter what orientation you hold by ICS tablet the image is rotated for one of the participants, but no one else is home right now for me to do any testing.

kind of why i don't want to switch over. the

-Angry birds i don't care too much about. Not too concerned with the mail app, i don't use it.

-Airplane mode? is it that common to use compared to silent? check the android store, pretty sure i saw some onscreen "silent" widgets when i though about doing GB

-I know skype doesn't work, or work right anyway. Why would they do that?

Well, since last "official" update i decided to do custom rom,

my first was zues, lil bit of SOD, kinda buggy . then went with ZTR very buggy horrible issues!

so i decided try 1 other one it was a toss up between r3valution/or emancipation 1st amendment..

well went with emancipation! WOW is all i can say over the air updates custom themes "updated and available" FULL support!

no issues no dropped calls everything works!

Kinda up to end user but phone is prob out of warrenty by now so kinda up to your preference, notification bar gives you a scrolling ability to do many things that you would often have to dig into settings to turn on /off

over all great rom ! o and battery life is unbelievable !
