Help htc desire wont turn on(is it water damaged ?)

my phone wont turn on or charge, it did get splashed with water at the beach the other day ,but stickers inside are white dont no if this means the water has got in so have done the rice thing for 2 days incase but still wont turn on or charge , any ideas please

Probably done for then.

Rice doesn't always work. You have to disconnect battery and submerge into rice immediately and even then it is not guaranteed.

Chances are its beyond repair. Water is very corrosive.

Do you have insurance with accidental damage cover?

A point to note that may or may not be helpful to others who are in a similar situation.

I have a desire HD and got it wet. I dried it out in the rice and it still did not work. No LED when charging. Nothing when trying a full reboot with volume button down. I was gutted as obviously HTC wouldn't repair it and i didn't have insurance. I pondered it for a few weeks, trying it again and again but no luck.

Just on the off chance, I tried a freinds battery and to my suprise, it turned on. I shut the phone down, put in my old battery and plugged in the charger got a flashing orange LED, this turned to full orange after a few minutes. I then turned the phone on, let it charge fully and it's all working perfectly now.

Hope you are as lucky as I was.

I thought the paper being white was OK, but they go a purple/pink colour if wet? They did on my wife's San Francisco so I assumed they used the same kind of paper in the HTC phones.

I've had the same problem today. I've just spent 5 days in Wales with no internet. Came back today and updated 7 apps via the Google Market then not long after my phone just turned off!! I've tried all the usual stuff, removing battery, trying to start in safe mode etc but nothing works. If I've just put the battery in then I get a yellow led light that alternates between lit and off every 5 seconds or so, I press the on button and the led goes off and nothing else happens. The light goes off and it's not charging. Tried charging via a computer, exactly the same.

I removed the SD card and Sim card and left it, and after a while it turned on again. Put them both back in, same thing happened, turned itself off again.

Did you update any apps today? My phone starts after a while with no cards in, put them back in and it turns off again. I'm wondering if there's a dodgy app that's messed up my phone that I installed today. I only remember updating Just Pictures, DrawSomething, Flixster Movies and & couple more that I can't remember.

By the way, I dropped my Desire down a clean toilet 19 months ago, fully submerged for 3 seconds. Once dried out it;s worked fine for the last 18 and half months! I doubt your problem is water from a few sprinkles.

Yeah.. Generally speaking once it's been exposed to that kinda water damage, it's only a matter of time before it dies completely. Killing the power, pulling the battery and drying it thoroughly probably prolonged it dying until now. Sorry matey but that sounds like it's dead to me. If you can't boot into recovery / bootloader (volume down + power on) the problem will be a bit more than a dodgy app.
