Saying Bye To This Amazing Community

My time with the Triumph has been special, but most importantly, so has my time with the Triumph community. We've grown in numbers from the start, had great discussions, and helped each other out. The development of the Triumph started with Isaac, soon followed with Tickerguy, and since then others have helped a whole bunch like Mantera, and Whyzor. Some other people I wont forget include Minus, Agentc, Ziggy, and Jollyrogers. I'm officially saying farewell to my Triumph in a few days. I enjoyed being apart of this community and hope that maybe some day you can all come to Straight Talk($45 Unlimited) with an LG Thrill 4G(Ordered mine for $208 on eBay) so we can all spend some more time together. Thanks to everyone, and take care.

Wait you use this phone for $45 a month with "Unlimited" everything?

LG Thrill 4G review -- Engadget

Yes. You can use almost any GSM device with 850 and 1900 bands. So that's almost any At&t and T-mobile device. It runs on the At&t and T-mobile networks. You can use devices like Samsung Galaxy Note, iPhones, and many more. Here's the list of comfirmed working devices List of phones that work with the Straight Talk SIM cards | Wise Finish

Purchase a phone that works with the networks, purchase a Sim card from Straight Talk, that's it. Only downside is no 4G. I've read that HSPA+ works on devices that support it.

I've been thinking about doing this, but forking up the cash for an unlocked phone is very daunting.

I'd so love to have a Galaxy Note :/

nah.... I'm good... ATT sucks. If it was only T-Mobile Id do it.

Really? Last time I checked AT&T network ran faster than Sprint. Sprint network seems to suck the last 7 months I've owned it. And Straight Talk uses both networks, it roams over the two, at least to my knowledge.

Do you get 4G with Straight Talk?

No, but I've read that HSPA+ works on devices that support it.

The device doesn't need to be unlocked. If you can save buying a carrier locked phone you'll be alright. Here's why:

1. Straight Talk sells 3 types of SIMS, each in 2 different sizes (Mini SIM a.k.a. Regular SIM, and Micro-SIM).
-AT&T SIM for phones locked to AT&T
-T-mobile SIM for phones locked to T-mobile
-Unlocked SIM for unlocked devices

2. You can always unlock the device with an unlock code.

Mini Sim - Standard-Sized Sim Card, what most people are familiar with.
Micro Sim - Standard-Sized Sim Card cut to fit phones that only accept smaller sized Sim Cards.

They are the exact same Sim Card, aside from the size.

Straight talk offers either of the two sizes mentioned above in three variations. If you have an AT&T locked device, you'll buy the AT&T Sim Card in either of the two sizes mentioned, you must find out what size your device uses. Most devices still use Mini Sim, I believe iPhone is the only device out of all AT&T and T-mobile devices that uses Micro-Sim, I could be very wrong. Now the same applies if you're purchasing an Unlocked device and a carrier locked T-mobile device.

I believe that you are right about just the iPhone for now anyways. It seems like more and more phones are starting to use micro sim standard. The new HTC One series all use micro sims so that's all about to change.

So basically if you aren't going to get an iPhone or one of the HTC One series phones then you would use a standard sim, but if you want to find out for sure so that you can get the right sim either get the device first or you can call the manufacturer or look online to find out. Although if worse came to worse it's better to get a standard sim, cuz you can get it cut down to size.

How would you go about buying a carrier locked phone without signing a contract?

Paying full retail from the manufacturer, ebay, craigslist, amazon, etc. basically though you can't get the contracted price you are going to most likely pay more unless you can find a cheap used one.

eBay or amazon would be your best options, don't go with craigslist. With eBay and Amazon you're likely to get the devices used, but saving $150+ on a used device would be better than buying it new and not being able to get much back for it when you decide to sell it to upgrade. Not only do you save by buying used devices from eBay or Amazon, but you're usually backed by either the seller themselves under their 14 to 30 day return policy, or eBay Buyer Protection program. The devices are guaranteed to show up at your door working as described, or you'd be able to get your money back regardless. I recommend eBay overall because I've used it for over 2 years and have had no issues whatsoever, on over 70+ purchases. Purchases are secure through Paypal, and like I said, the item you purchase is usually protected by eBay if any issues arise. Plus, an added bonus is the option to bid on auction items, or just go straight to purchasing devices that have the "Buy Now" option.

As soon as my tax refund comes in, I'm gonna buy an international Galaxy Note from expansys-usa.com. The one year international warranty isn't valid in the US but according to a rep on the site expansys will handle warranty claims for you.

i know they are alot! but i sold alot of my stuff to get the money for it :(

(it will be worth the loss though! :p )

lol

I'm getting the Galaxy S2(soon) and I'm selling stuff in order to get it. Selling my old laptop, a pair of $100 headphones(not for $100 though D:), and then once it comes time my phone itself.

S2 Skyrocket on Tmobile Prepaid. I'm thinking about either white or black, but white is more expensive..

You want the Hercules the Skyrocket is AT&T's version and you probably won't get 3g/ 4g with it ;)

Hmmm.. Somehow I heard T-Mobile's version was called Skyrocket. Oh well, thanks for pointing that out. It'll probably help when I try to buy accessories for it. :P

Honestly, I'm just about fed up with the triumph. It's about to go through warranty again and after that I think I'll try to sell the thing while the resale is still high. As soon as the One V and Evo V hit this things value (and likely retail price) will drop like a rock.

However, the $25 plan is just too sweet to give up. I'll probably pick up a cheap Optimus V to hold me over till the Evo V hits. I'd say I can make it 2-3 months on that.

Edit: One more thing. I'm super excited about the Evo V, and the best part about it is that it isn't a brand new phone with old specs. Consequently, it already has an established community and roms. There will be roms from Day one and the VM community will continue the push toward great ICS roms.
