Help Not sure if ICS has loaded properly!

Hi

How do you know if Ice Cream Sandwich has upgraded a phone properly?

I ask because all of the pictures and videos I have seen of ICS on a GS2 look completely different to mine.

There have been changes on my phone but the wallpapers, ring tones, contacts and phone layouts, icons on home and apps screens plus most other things are all the same.

There are some changes;

The password keypad is larger as are the app icons on all screens.

The Social Hub layout does not default to the list of email addresses/Facebook/Twitter/message list instead it opens on all feeds which is rather annoying.

Sub menus are set out differently in list form with different font.

Messaging has different font.

Facebook page loads differently in layout.

Facebook session expired keeps popping up.

New Google browser with incognito (which I do not know how to get out of incognito from).

WiFi now has the data arrows underneath it which are constantly highlighting and WiFi connection is unstable.

Touch screen is not as sensitive.

Now have Google Plus.

Swype keypad is laid out differently and swype trace is now orange instead of blue.

Smiley's are different.

The way of deleting emails changed to a trash can icon at the top of the screen but today has now reverted to the Gingerbread method.

Receive email notifications in the notification pull down screen.

Some notifications in the pull down screen can be swiped away!

When battery charged it now does not make a sound to tell you it's charged.



I upgraded to ICS from an update notification on my handset. After upgrading my mini paper notes, main email account and a few homepage bookmarks were deleted.

Does all this sound normal?

Go to:-

Settings > About phone > Android version

The pictures you have seen were probably of the Galaxy Nexus which has the pure ICS on it. The ICS on the SGSII has been adapted for the phone and also includes TouchWiz launcher.

Please could I ask what TouchWiz launcher is, what does it do and how would I know if my phone has it? Hope you don't mind my asking.

Also, I wondered if ICS on the GS2 should have the face recognition option as mine does not.

You're on ICS then.

TouchWiz is the stock launcher that the SGSII came with. The one that has got the Home screens.

As far as I am aware, there should be Face Recognition bundled with the update. I'm on GB still so cannot give you a definitive answer.

Thank you for your answers ironass, I appreciate your help. I see what you mean about the Nexus now, also I am discovering things like Apex etc that can also make it look different.

I will have a Google about the face recognition.

Goto Settings/ Security/ Screen Lock, and it should say Face Unlock in there :thrasher:

It really isnt worth it because it can be opened easily with a pic. Really think its just a samsung gimmick.

I had opened 'Screen Lock' but as it asked for my PIN I hadn't gone any further.

I see what you mean about being a gimmick, it even says on he phone ' low security, experimental'.
