Can I have Google Maps keep the Hero awake?

I would like Google Maps to over-ride the sleep timer on my phone and always stay on.

I downloaded the app "Trapster", which is a police notification overlay on top of Google Maps. It has the feature of over-riding the sleep timer and keeps the display always on.

Disabling the sleep timer is not an option. I would like Google Maps to have the same functionality a 3rd party overlay app is giving me.

Is this possible?

Nope, I want the option native to Google Maps.

You could contact Google to incorporate that feature.

There is an app I use called Screebl. It keeps your screen on when the phone is tilted in a certain way (like when you are holding it in your hand or have it on a car holder.

Ok, so it's not native to google maps, but a good solution nonetheless...

Screebl sounds like it would be good to use.

I'm just surprised there isn't an "always on" mode for Google Maps. It's a GPS tracker and a direction finder. Sprint Navigation stays on while it's giving directions. Hell, there's an app called Trapster that uses Google Maps as its map source and then overlays police location data entered by other users. That's what I've been using instead of stock Google Maps.
