HTC One S retail package?

Hi Has anyone saw a retail package which is going along with the One S ? I saw some unboxing videos of pre-production phones with some random paper boxes which was EW. Perhaps it will be the same as One X box that leaked from some french site last weak? cant post the picture as a new member

Wow! Do you mean it is for some operator in France? Is French only on a box and in the manual? The phone itself shouldn't be different from English I guess. What type have you got - regular or 1700/2100 version?

I have ordered the T-Mobile version (which is more expensive, but I am on Wind, and that's the one I need), and they are still waiting for stock at the moment.

I don't buy phones from carriers - SIM-free only for me. Part of the reason is that I've moved two and from the UK over the past few years and can't afford to get tied in. The other parts include 'bloatware is evil' and I prefer phones with the original branding. (Ie HTC instead of some carrier stamp)

The manual was French, not much in there anyway. The only on-phone differences were that local settings might be to some Euro standard and mobile data might take an extra step to figure out. Nothing that's not easily remedied.

Oh and for frequency, I have the quad band version - 850/900/1800/1900. Usable on most networks, but not all. Needed in case I move back to the UK... :/

Network frequencies are something I wish I knew more about, mostly which ones are required for which data connections. Mneh.

Absolutely agree with this approach! I've been buying all my smartphones somewhere else, not from the carrier, because I prefer to get what I like, rather than choose from that very limited selection which we have here in Canada.
The only problem is that as now I'm with Wind, which use that recently standardized AWS/UMTS band, the selection of the compatible phones even worldwide is quite limited. So one of my recent phones was from T-Mobile USA, as they are compatible, and that phone had a lot of bloatware.

Been there. The HTC Sensation I bought at Expansys last year was from Asia apparently. The only issue was that the language I had to select was something like English Singapore instead of English US/UK/Canada, which were not available, and it had some custom apps specific to that region, but other than that it's a normal Android phone.

I see. It's easier for you - those 4 bands are standard everywhere (well, 2 bands in Europe/Asia, and the other 2 - in North America).

Yeah, especially recently when different 4G standards came out, and with some frequencies used in Europe, but not available in the US, it becomes too difficult to follow. I just learned one important detail. If I need a phone to use with my carrier, I have to make sure it supports both 1700 and 2100. Luckily T-Mobile uses the same, so I can buy there.

Same here. Ordered from Expansys Canada and received a French model through the US. The power adapter is for Europe so they threw an adapter in the (rounded white paper) box.

Since it's not carrier-branded, I got the 1.78 software update which is now starting to trickle out -- although I guess that was not part of the original question

Just received my replacement from Expansys (my first one got a chip in the MOA finish), and installing the software update now.
