Helicooper, that was an excellent, detailed automobile / phone analogy and I applaud you for it! However, that was one aspect that I had a pretty good grasp on already. Perhaps you, Nash, Woop, Woodraskam, or Ruben (the Sense Guru) could put together a similar, detailed, thorough analogy regarding the difference between stock Android and Sense UI. To me, being brand new to Android AND smartphones as a whole, that's the one I am having the most difficult time getting my mind around. Much thanks in advance!!! :)

Sense is like putting a bag over an ugly girl's head. :) j/k

Sense is using the same engine but putting a different transmission on the car so it runs smoother. May sacrafice a little power but the car isn't jerking or stuttering down the road. It also cuts some of the fat/weight out of the car and makes the a/c run more efficiently.

Speaking of removable memory...

I was reading on the Eris forum about putting a better micro-sd card in helped performance.. Something like a class 8 VS. a class 2 (the Eris shipped with a class 2 I think they said). The class 8 read/wrote faster and helped speed up the performance of the phone a little.

Do you think that would be possible for this phone (I don't really know how micro-sd cards work)?

Assuming the Incredible can take at least a 16 gb if not 32 gb micro-sd, if we bought class 8 cards would that help even MORE to make the phone more snappier? Just a thought (especially for the members worried about the possible underclocked processor).

paper or plastic? :D

Left work at 3 pm yesterday, back to work at 7 this morning. No work done again...neck broken again...eyes bleeding again...Anyone think I have a workmans comp. case building? ...

Good question, I remember the same thing. I don't know if there was a clear answer to what a class 8 card would do for the Eris. But I would imagine if there was an improvment to would be the same for the Incredible.

Yeah, I think results were mixed. Members were saying you needed to buy a quality brand-name 8 class micro-sd and if I remember correctly members who did reported a little boost in the phone. It became a little more snappy.

For example, instead of 5-6 seconds opening a program, it only took 3-4. Something like that and I think the photo album was quicker.

I don't know if this is a big improvment (never owned a smartphone) or worth the cost of an 8 class card, but just a thought.

The class of the card refers to its read/write speed. Since you can't store apps on the card, it's not really going to affect the overall operation of the phone. When listening to music or viewing photos from the card you might see a difference but assuming that the music bitrate is lower than the read speed of the card, the card speed wouldn't be the bottleneck. The place where you're going to see the difference is when you're loading gigs of music on to the card all at once.

Thanks. Do the smartphones save any other type of "information" they use to run (work) to the cards or is it just "stuff" you save to the card? I wasn't sure if some files the smartphone used to operate were saved to the card. Thanks again!

I think you're going to see the N1 and Incredible announced at CTIA, with the N1 going on sale via Google almost immediately.

The Incredible isn't slated for launch until April/May. And my money is closer to May. I'll split the difference and say April 15th :p

Well this is certainly disappointing to hear.. and barely tolerable... but just hearing something concrete in oh what is it now.. 11 days or so will make the wait easier to bear.

Just KNOWING I'll be in the top 10 on the waiting list will make it worthwhile... cause i'll be camping on the front door of the first place taking pre-orders!!!

I don't know if this has been posted, but 6.60 free probably means that this phone comes advertised as having 8GB internal storage, and I think 6.60 GB makes it more believable than if it said 8.0 GB internal storage. Just like when you buy a HD you don't actually get 120GB and some of the ROM is probably used by the OS as well.

Edit: For example, my Ipod (Don't flame, it's a good MP3 player) is advertised as 8GB, but the capacity under the Settings->About says 6.8 GB

Sorry for this OT question,
When you're going to pre order, Do you go in store to pre order and pick up in store, Pre order online and it gets shipped to you, or can you pre order online and pick up in store. I used to wait w/ for phones went down to $99 and buy w/ my ne2....
Not waiting this time!!!!

If you go to a verizon store check out the inside of a storm 2. There is a sim card in there for a worldphone but that sim card will not work in the states for other carriers just in other countries.
That's correct, as I have much the same on my BB 8830 World Phone. I can only use it on other networks when I'm out of country.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, because I've only dealt with non-Android smartphones, but I believe that just "Stuff" would be stored on the card. If an SD card held operating system files you needed to run the phone, you wouldn't be able to switch it out and put in another with, say, your collection of DVDs you squeezed down to size with FairUse Wizard.

Well, this might influence a few to go with the Incredible... I for one am disappointed, but I guess deep down I knew this would happen.

Nexus One confirmed to only be sold online, not in Verizon stores | Android Central

A N1 with Sense? What the Deuce? Though I don't know how accurate that would be as Sense should not be on the N1 AND they have the wrong link to order the N1 (its google.com/phone and not phoneS).
The Sense will throw people for a curve as then they will literally have 2 phones that will almost be the exact same.

I just want to clarify that currently all apps are only allowed to be saved to the ROM on the phone. Google announced at the N1 press conference that they were working on a way to allow apps to be installed to the SD card, but have yet to release more information about SD card apps.

Correct. All the OS information is stored on the internal storage. Thats why you see a huge difference in internal storage between stock Android phones and Sense UI phones. For example when I had it the Droid had 260mb of internal storage. My Wife's Eris after maybe 4 additional apps were installed had 112mb.

While I think that it is true the N1 will be online only. That pic the story has says Sense UI (won't happen) and the processor is the same as the TMobile N1 which is incapable of CDMA.

Yeah, the amount of misinformation on that web page gives it a pretty fishy odor. I doubt that Google will ever sell a phone that has a manufacturers propietary OS layer on it.
