Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Have a hunch about the Google sign-in problem....


  • The Google sign-in service is running too early. It's running before the phone has started up it's 3G connection.

I may try and enable WiFi and power the phone off/on and see if that launches quicker.

I do believe you are correct and its just a timing issue that I would imagine will be fixed in the OTA. I noticed too playing around that sign in alert is almost immediate, or they missed a line of code that says "wait for connection before authenticating" When I put mine in airplane mode I immediately get the sign on error too. It tries no matter what state the phone is in.
 
Leaked 2.1 is amazing.

Everything I want is working

Like the new shortcuts (keep one on the desktop for my wife's number)

Navigator works like a charm and finally I can get "Life Stories"

but...I'd love Fandango. Can't get it off the market. Any help out there ?

That's what gave me the clue ;)

Turned on WiFi, turned off Mobile, and have rebooted phone. Interesting...

I have (2) Google accounts. I got a status-bar notification that sign-in failed for one of them, but nothing for the 2nd account. I did NOT get the prompt like normal either though.

For the account that did "fail", I opened the GMail app and it appears okay. I don't think it is though. Scroll all the way down and there's a "No Connection" item with a "Retry" button. Hitting retry causes it to flicker, but remain at "no connection". When I try the 2nd account, the one I rec'd no notification of failing sign-in on, it tells me "No connection" and when I tell it to re-try, it fails and gives me a 2nd status-bar notification. Same "No connection" item too... Hitting "Retry" (for both) does NOT popup a login box though !!

Only way to correct this is to open Notifications and select the failed entry or entries.

Now I do NOT think it's a timing issue, i.e. trying to connect too early. It's simply not remembering out credentials during a reboot.
 
in gmail using k9 mail or regular mail it never shows any attachments. i know others stated this but any app out there that will show attachements?

K9 mail shows attachments for me, they're just at the bottom, and always have a paperclip on them. (to show as an attachment, lol)

ok i am trying to do it again. maybe it's trying to load all my mail at once? when i open up something with an attachment no writing comes up nor the attachements. it just says downloading.... then the little symbol below it. did you mess with any of the settings in k9? i didn't touch anything other than log in and that's it. logged in with gmail account and that's it. i thought it said something about an error but i forget.
 
I believe it was on phandroid..... I know it was on another forum but there are people claiming that they got the 2.1 pushed to their phones. Has there been anyone else that has heard any of this? They are not talking about the leak.


I am so tempted to do this but just the possibility of me screwing this up, or certain things not working as I would like them to scares me too much as I use this phone all the time for my business's and Im so busy I dont know what I would do if it were to go down on me (although I can assume it would be take a trip to verizon and pay retail for another, which I dont want to do)

So anyways Im wondering if anyone knows if the minor details on upgrading to the leak, the minor bugs, are planned on being fixed or are we just stuck with them until the ota that will hopefully go through for the people that have done this upgrade.

My settings in K-9 mail are as follows:
Theme-Dark
Animation-Checked
Touch-friendly view-Checked
Message stars-Checked
Multi-select checkboxes-Checked
Background sync-Always
Enable debug logging-Un-Checked
Log sensitive information-Un-Checked


Now, go to your email account that you're having trouble with, and select "Menu", then "More", then "Account Settings"
If you want this account as the Default account, check it off.
Next, the list:
Number of messages to display-I set mine to 25, loads quicker.
Scroll Navigation buttons-Always
Folder poll check frequency-Every 10 minutes
Folders to check with Poll-Only 1st Class folders
Folders to check with Push-Only first class folders
Max folders to check with push-10, the minimum
When I delete a message-Delete from server(I don't need to read it when I get back to my computer)
Expunge messages-Immediately after move or copy
Incoming server-(already configured when you set up the account)
Auto-expand folder-Inbox
Folders to display-Only 1st class folders
Move/copy destination folder-All

The "writing messages" section is for your signature, etc, no problems should be caused there.

Notifications......

Notify for mail I sent-Un-checked

The last one checked is "Sync notifications", this just tells you in the status bar when it checks for email, you can leave it un-checked if you like.

One thing I did find out, and it took me a while, is why I was getting two notifications for every email that I received. This happens when you don't check "First class folders only" under every setting that has the option. What it was doing was checking "Inbox" and "All mail" in Gmail, which gave the dual notifications and drove me crazy with "bidi bidi bidi bidi, watch her Buck" going off every 5 minutes when I got dual notifications from replies from this forum, lol!:rolleyes:

Getting this weird bug in browser where it crashes randomly. My theory is the cache limit. It's set for 6mb but looking at it the cache Is almost 8. Wonder If the browser is crashing because of this. I'm setting my cache to 100kb and see what happens.
 
has anyone got the app Bluetooth File Transfer to work? I get the error:

Can't Initialize low-level Bluetooth library


I think I read somewhere that there is a built-in bt file transfer. where is that at?

use dolphin browser. i have had no issues with it at all on 2.1

just got this thing loaded up and got it all setup and everything and there hasnt been once glitch at all! its been running smooth and very responsive. I guess ill give it a few days and then I will report back on battery life and anything else I come up with!
 
hey folks, long time lurker here. flashed my Eris yesterday to the 2.1 and have been happy with it. really havent had any issues, other than the google voice glitch. installing the older version took care of that

i was having the intermittent login issue with gmail, but that seems to have gone away as well. not sure if it was anything i did...

anyway, thanks to everyone who has been posting up with the great information. hopefully i will be able to contribute in some way.
 
Decided to give ChompSMS a shot after having issues with the built-in SMS client and Handcent. So far, no failed deliveries... Are others having failures ? I posted over at Handcent's forum and one of their people said it's a VZW issue (??).

Regarding ChompSMS, I have gotten multiple duplicate incoming messages though.
 
For some reason, my ringtones get very loud when receiving a phone call. Regardless of how low I set the volume, it starts at the set volume for a split second, then gets loud to about 80% of full volume. Tried rebooting a few times and double checking the settings.

Any one else experience this? If so, is there a fix?
