Help ICS update on i9100. Contacts not responding - please help

My phone updated itself to ICS over wifi yesterday (rather than via Kies through a PC).
After the phone restarted my contacts app no longer works. It hangs for a while and then I get a "Contacts is not responding" error message.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?
Anyone know of a resolution?
The only thing Samsung help desk could advise is a reset back to factory settings.
If I do that I will lose all of my data/photo's/apps etc but I did regularly back up my phone so is it as simple as resetting the phone and then restoring all my apps/photo's/data etc?
Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

Clearing data in contacts storage might help. Menu/settings/applications/contacts storage/clear data.
Make sure you have a back up of your contacts first. I don't know if it will fix your issue but that's what I would try personally.

I always wipe/restore after upgrading to avoid issues.

Thanks GG1, that seems to have done the trick.

Thanks it fixed my problem also, is there any open ticket known bug for it? It seems a pretty major bug, my phone and contact were not responding and that make a smart phone dumb
