Help Downloading files from the internet???

Hello,
I have got a new Samsung Galaxy S II - 16 GB yesterday.
And made a new Google Account.
When I tried to download a .rar/.zip file i got an error message:
Can not download: The download content is not supported on this phone.

Why?!!!!

I remember my brother telling me that Android can download any file type from the internet!!!

So I cannot download .rar files??

Anyone help me please??
I bought this phone especially for this hoping I can download anything just like I am using a portable PC.

OK have you tried another browser to download any file???

Does android really download any file from the internet??

But come to think of it...
If it is the browser not allowing the file type to be downloaded, so why I would get a message telling that it's not supported on this Phone??!!!

yep im using opera mini now. oft use it. dunno, maybe u will need to download an app that can open rar files. even a windows pc wudnt say u cant download a rar file, that is odd lol

So you are not sure if the android can download rar files or not?

So what files can android download from the internet? .apk only??

Yes brothers.
I just want to download only and then I will transfer the downloaded rar files to my laptop!!

Hey alpha0990, i don't have Safari browser or Opera mobile in my Samsung Galaxy SII, where can I find those in the Applications???

You know what I did?
All what I did to download the .rar file. Is just I browse the internet through this square looking-google Search bar which appear in the main screen of the phone....

So that one is not a browser at all, is that why the file can not be downloaded???

First of all, If you press Power+Home, you can actually take a screen capture. The picture would be saved in a folder called Screen Capture. You can then upload and ask question you want. Can even edit the picture before you upload.

Second, that's google search, which should allow you to search the net and when you tap on the search, it brings you to the browser. The browser is called Internet. There should also be an icon (World) for that browser. There are lots of other browsers in google play though, Opera, Firefox etc. I usually use Dolphin HD.

I haven't had any problems downloading stuff to be honest.

Pardon me. I am still new to using this mobile anyway so I didn't know about pressing Home+Power buttons will take a capture screenshot.

This is the Google where I search and tried to download the rar file from, indicated by the arrow..

So what you mean that using this Google search or whatever it is called (Internet) will not have problems downloading stuff as well???!!!

If so, then why I had this couldn't download error message and download content not supported for this phone.

Thank you so much for this. I know now how to do it :)
I have another question. I found a Internet Download Manager IDM version for android available in Google Play. Is this similar to the PC version??
