NKT, since you have had the phone in your hand I have a question. I may be in the minority here, but the shape of the back of the phone is still kinda bugging me. It looks a little quirky when you compare it to more polished devices like the iphone, N1 or even the Eris. In the history of cell phones I do not ever remember seeing such an obscure back plate on a phone. I believe in a previous post you mentioned that the phone did not feel as good in your hand as the N1. Do you feel this was because of the odd shape of the back? Do you think the grooves in the back serve some functional purpose such as helping you type on the phone when it is held sideways? Other than the added weight of the structure to support it I do not understand why they did not put a more conservative back on the phone. I guess the inside of the phone is far more important, but I am wondering if there are people who will pass on the phone for this reason. Maybe we should just be happy that it is not longer red. Anyway, any input would be appreciated. Thanks for all the "dirt" so far!

The way it feels in the hand has to do with the edges of the device only. It's more angular whereas the N1 is rounded. The edges of the Incredible aren't as boxy as the Moto and have an angle on them that makes it feel pretty nice, just not as nice as the N1.

As for the contours, I think it was a design choice to give it a little "flair"...

If Google decided to get into the broadband infrastructure business... then they wouldn't be competing directly with their main customers. That would be bad for business. I don't know anything about the network stuff you mentioned, but it could be another way for Google to "jump start" an area of business in order to benefit them in other ways. This is what the N1 is essentially... a "reference" platform that ensures Android handset makers create competitive products and timely OS updates.

Here's a link to an article you can read regarding Google's broadband announcement plans.

Here's an article regarding the cities tripping over themselves (including mine) to be among the first to offer Google Broadband.

Google seeks cities for high-speed hookup Therese Poletti's Tech Tales - MarketWatch

Essentially, the more sets of eyes Google can get to view ad's via our computers, mobile devices and soon to be TV's, the better it is for their bottom line. We are nothing but pawns to them and a means of achieving an end. To think that they are creating their own mobile O.S. because they have the consumers best interest at heart would be deluding ourselves. It's all about Google making money through whatever means and channels necessary. The question we really need to ask ourselves is why are we so eager to help them add to their already bloated bottom line? Is it because we can't stand Apple, Microsoft and RIM even more? Some food for thought.

Well, call me confused now.

The info for the Incredible has conflicting info:

Then says this:

Power Connector: Mini USB

So, it's still unconfirmed. Wished I had paid more attention to the
connector...

The port isn't wide/tall enough to be Mini, and Micro is the new Black, so I'd bet the farm that this Incredible is sporting a MicroUSB

Google is a buisness, they are trying to make money, as are Apple and RIM, we as consumers want the best product out there and if Google offers that, then that is what we would take.

Info that came with the test phone.

I agree... it's all about getting end users to use Google's OS and apps. Any hardware created by them is a means to that end. The important point is that the hardware is not really the product Google wants to "sell" you. In the case of the N1, they wanted a reference design to ensure a phone exists that shows off Android's features and capabilities, one they could push out consistent updates for. The updates part is very important since Droid owners will be pissed if N1 owners continually have versions 1, 2 or 3 releases newer. Suppliers will need to stay on top of updates because Google will stay on top of the N1. It's Google's way of incentivising phone suppliers into making and maintain quality Android products. The better all android phones are... the better it is for Google.

Darn! I missed that obvious point. I usually pick up on stuff like that.

erm.. why does the documentation show a red phone?

Maybe we will get more than just black?!?

<edit> or maybe the backplate is off in the pic?

I really cannot take this waiting for a new phone anymore. I am so tempted to just buy a Droid or Eris, return it in less than 30 days (unless N1 comes to stores or Incredible is released) and pay the restocking fee then re-activate my old phone or Treo until the Incredible comes out or the N1 if later.

I cannot stand my LG Voyager and the wait for Android OS is killing me. Really killing me. Thanks to you summa bitches I am going insane.

hahaha +1

(patience my son) ;)

I'm sure you guys have discussed this to death already...but I just saw the latest pictures of the Incredible, branded Verizon, on Endgadget:

HTC Incredible out in the wild once more, Verizon color scheme alive and well -- Engadget

The back is soft-touch black. Inside the back cover is all fire engine red. I just had a feeling they were too design-smart to leave the back cover red as in previous pictures...and we discussed that issue for DAYS! Hahahaha...

I WANT MY INCREDIBLE so I can go on to the next phase: familiarity, proficiency, criticism, and craving for the next Cool Thing.

"Desire is the root of suffering" (B-Dog, aka Da Buddha)

Well, at least we're not getting the Desire. Heh

If you think your Voyager is bad try having a LG EnV the very first one not the EnV 2 or 3, the wait is killing me but it will be worth it.
