Can't access downlaod mode

Lurker
I restored my Samsung Captivate to factory firmware with Odin 3 One Click Downloader. My phones firmware version is now 2.1-update 1. The baseband version is I897UCJF6. Kernel version is 2.6.29.

Now, I can't access download mode; I have tried the three button combo keys.

What should I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Similar to the last one but some step change

1) Remove the battery
2) Put battery back in
3) Hold Vol +/-
4) Plug usb cable

If it does not work you will need a usb Jig. You can find sellers online for less then 10$. You can also make a "solder less" one yourself by getting a 301k Ohms resistors and touching both external connector of the usb.

Did not work either. I'm a noob but is there any way I can upgrade to stock gingerbread or ICS rom without going through download mode? I unrooted my captivate.

Download mode is only when using Odin or Heimdall to flash.

You can flash roms/modem/kernels using recovery menu. You will need to be in download mode to flash the new CWM recovery and flash roms from there.
