Root Can I have some advice/overview on partitions please?

Hi all,

I wonder if someone can help me please, I have a rooted Desire, running LeeDroid 3.0.7.

However it's been so long since I tried out a new ROM, when I look at the list of ROMs to choose from, they all seem to require different sized partions, and I don't know how to do this.

Is there an easy way I can check my current partition sizes, and change them to fit a new ROM on for?

Also, are there any other new requirements I should be looking out for since Roms like LeeDroid gingerbread?

Check the requirements of your chosen ROM & download the correct file from AlphaRev 1.8 and follow their instructions for flashing.

How do you find your ROM for speed? Do you use a fast SD card?

Oxygen is pretty quick. I don't use an sd card partition (oxygen r2 hboot gives me plenty of space 333mb data) so the original class2 sd card works fine.

Just to check, when you say "partitions" you mean internal storage partitions (nicka's answer) rather than partitioning of the SD card?

Assuming that is the case, you can always download the ROM, unzip a copy on your computer, and see how large the "system" folder in it is. You would need to use a hboot with /system at least that size.

Yes quite, partitions of the storage on the Desire. I read for example for the ROM "Slim ICS for Desire", they mention the partition amount consumed

wow, good idea, thanks! A simple one but a good one! From saying this though, do I assume /system is the main concern ?

Yeah, if system is too small the ROM install will fail.

Read the root memory faq, linked from the forum sticky post, and if you are even slightly unsure of anything ask before proceeding - better to get this stuff right first time.
