[Rogers/Canada] Phone malfunctioning due to water/physical damage

So recently I was using my phone and the program I was using froze. I turned the screen off, and when I turned it back on, the screen was just a jumble of pixels. I can boot the phone and it seems to work fine, still getting notifications, just the screen(?) is pixelated. I sent it to a repair shop directly through HTC as well as through my service provider, and came back both times "unrepairable due to water and/or physical damage". I'd like to try and fix it myself if I could, but need to know what needs fixed. Any help would be appreciated.
The closest this phone has ever come to water was being in the bathroom or kitchen, and has never suffered any type of drop etc. Phone was working perfectly before

well there you go. water dasmage will pretty much render the phone not worth repair. water gets into the components and causes mischief in there.

there is not much you can do at this point if its water damage.

Unfortunately, even if you take your phone into the bathroom while you shower, the humidity will eventually cause water damage.
When you replace it, be aware of humidity that could seep into your phone from the bathroom or kitchen, and try to remove your phone from that immediate area if possible.

If it boots up and you can hear notifications and such, you can always try to replace the LCD and digitizer. But there's no telling how much water corrosion there is or will be over time, so even if you do fix the screen, the actual electronics could fail in a week, a month, etc.

Best bet would be to replace your phone. If you have insurance on it, you can make an insurance claim, as Sprint Total Equipment Protection does cover water damage.

That's what I was thinking, just not sure its worth spending the money. Already got a replacement phone, HTC Raider (Vivid). I am with Rogers in Canada, so Sprint won't do me much good :)
