Anonimac,
Since you started this thread, do you think we should start an "Incredible battery saving techniques thread"? I have noticed them on some of the other sub-forums. Maybe basic techniques, links to other websites to prolong lithium ion batts, and apps to download that could aid in this? Just a thought..

I was going to start one, but didn't know if it was too early and I don't have a smartphone so I am not aware of any apps and stuff. What do you all think?

It seems this last week is going to be kinda rough until CTIA, it seems we have squeezed most of the specs/news from the Incredible sponge lol

What about a sticky thread (in one of the new sub-forums) instead of an entire different sub-forum?

Yes, you could make very cheap calls to regular phone numbers, and if you called another person on skype, you could call for free.:)
If it were only that easy it would be a no-brainer for me to get the phone. However, unlike the U.S., it is next to impossible to find businesses in Europe that offer free Wi-Fi service. I'll never forget roaming the streets of Amsterdam toting my computer bag a year ago trying to find restaurants and/or cafe's with Wi-Fi service and was surprised by how few offered it. Ironically, McDonald's was the only place I could find a Wi-Fi hotspot and even then you had to pay by the hour for using the service. Where in the U.S. there's free Wi-Fi service in just about every coffee shop you walk into, save Starbucks, Europe is completely the opposite. One way or another you end up paying for service over there and Wi-Fi rates aren't cheap.

I read on the first post that the incredible is confirmed and will be running a 1 ghz snap dragon...but I have google alerts send me any news about the incredible and after reading the 10 new news articles they all say that it is running the 768 mhz snap dragon...which is right, who is right? I don't want to be confused!!! Here is one article stating 768

The 768 number comes from either Stericson or NKT which was the speed listed on a testing unit. Some tried to say that there we lesser snapdragon processors running at 768 but no one could provide a model number and the only proof seems to have been a 1ghz chip tested at lower speeds. This is probably where your articles are getting their information. Most likely the production units will not be at 768mhz.

First off....I know I don't make the rules around here....and it is a very sensitive subject to some people....but sometimes it's hard to tell OFF Topic...to what is acceptable. For example, the Incredible will not have GSM or world phone capabilities...but it will have Skype. Now...I could....and one might argue that I should go investigage Skype and not ask any question about it here....but the way I see it....it's very pertinent to this phone and it's usability. And...I don't think it's anymore off topic than what color back plates might be offered in...or what batteries might be available. Now...you want to talk about OFF TOPIC? Try discussing sports teams or places to get a good burger! Or...try talking about the iPhone....but with NO reference to the Incredible. Am I wrong? I guess it really doesn't matter....it's the Moderators call...or perhaps someone else who has assigned themselves hall monitor. :p

I get that this is the OFFICIAL HTC INCREDIBLE forum...but until the phone comes out...how can anything be "official". With all this said (and off topic) I am sure this post might be deleted. Btw....thank you to the people who replied about the Skype function. What that tells me is...if I want to make a call...I better look for a McDonalds and be willing to pay. As luck would have it...I might not even get to go to Europe again before this phone is old news....but if I am lucky enough to return for vacation....it will be an option...and I won't have to feel cheated that I don't have a GSM phone.

Skype will be running on the 3G side of the phone or wifi. This is why Verizon is getting an exclusive deal. I would guess android or blackberry devices on Verizon will now be a worldphone with this. No need of adding the expense of a sim card to the phone where you could switch carriers later. Sounds like a smart move for Verizon to make you stay with them. I could be reading into their strategy wrong. Here is some links anyways.

^^^ lol, everyone is excited. Is anyone putting any weight behind the rumors (a few pages back) that there will be some sort of a pre-CTIA annoucment on the 19th? Possibly something on the Incredible?

With ATT making some annoucments this morning (4 new phones and new service plans) maybe VZW will want to 1 up them?

Yeah... One up them with the Devour. Isn't is suppose to be on VZW today? I know its been in stores like Walmart and Best Buy, but I seem to recall the 15th as the day VZW starts selling it online.

Sounds very cool....thank you for the links! So, correct me if I'm wrong...but I read nothing that would change how our phone will work in places such as Europe...where the network is different. We will ultimately have to get our Incredible phones to a WiFi spot...yes? I think this is awesome and does indeed somewhat circumvent the need for a sim card. If you can find a WiFi spot...then you will have service. That's just one more reason to dig this phone! :D

Official launch date for the Devour for VZW is the 25th.

The phones they are getting do not sound that great.

But they are 4 phones no one on here would want. I think the 19th idea comes from the fact its the last news cycle day before CTIA begins. Might be a good idea but I doubt it since there have been no invitations to a Verizon or HTC presser have been sent to places like Engadget or what not. Hence we're waiting for CTIA for official word or leaks right before it.

Do you think there would be a press event or just a press release? I don't think that VZW or HTC are holding any events or new conferences or whatever at CTIA...hmmm

But both HTC and Verizon have booths at CTIA. Honestly, if the specs from this forum are true, I dont think a press conference is needed as word will get around pretty fast.

I think wifi in the beginning but 3G will work on other networks over there at a later date. I am not sure which spectrum Verizon is using for the data plan. Skype will work on the data plan. Also, keep in mind that the qualcomm chip in the Verizon phones can handle GSM networks. I am thinking that with Verizon going with LTE and other countries doing the same that something is in the works for crossing over on networks for skype users. This would be a plus for Europe travelers coming to the states as well.

Looking at the official schedule no wireless company seems to have a presser setup for CTIA. But Verizon or HTC could have a presentation at their booth. HTC has a pretty big booth (not the biggest but big) and is only literally a couple booths down from Verizon's (1034)

Yea I was thinking that also...I've never been to an expo of any kind so IDK how this would work out at the booth or whatever. I feel there has to be an announcement of some kind, its already the end of Q1, we need another high powered android device on VZW.

Well if its something like E3 you would announce and demo a product at the booth. They could put out a press release and have a number of Incredibles at the Verizon or HTC booth for the press to play with.

I guess thats what I have been assuming VZW would do all along (in the absence of press releases). I'm not sure they could escape the angry press mobs if all they did was come with pictures of the Incredible.

Is there any device from last year's CTIA someone can draw an analogy to? i.e. Was there a hyped device that was revealed ala booth demos?

Only thing that comes to mind (not that it means much from me) was the Blackberry app world. I've got a creeping suspicion it will only be N1 news at CTIA for Verizon. Hopefully I'm wrong.
