Help Microsd card compatibility/formatting discussion

Anyone have any good sources that compares memory card capacities and what you could actually fit on the card? (Like how many pictures or how much HD video?) I am trying to decide between a 32gb and a 64gb. I don't really plan on putting most of the files on my computer due to limited hard drive capacity so I will most likely keep everything on the memory card for now.

Will you see a difference between a class 6 and a 10? SanDisk 64 gb class 6 cards I found have been around $75-90. SanDisk 64gb class 10 cards I have found are like $105-120. Is it worth the extra 20-30 bucks to get the class 10?

Also, will a need to buy a memory card reader or will my Mac read the SD card fine when plugged in with the USB cable?

I just bought a 32g on Amazon for under $20. It is a class 4. I have to give up my 16 in my EVO because I have seemed to lost my 8g that came with it. It is a sandisk and if it runs like my last one it should be just fine.

You're going to want to still back up the contents of your SD card if you can. It just takes your phone getting stolen, lost, or dunked in water for you to lose an entire year's worth of photos and memories. At a minimum, back them up to the cloud via Google+, or Picasa or something.

As for your other question, I can't speak for Macs, but for PCs, we have USB host and MTP, so in other words, yes on a PC you can plug the phone into the computer and it can read the card.
 
Thanks Jceinc and NeoteriX. One other question...if I don't get the SD card until a couple of weeks after I get the phone will I be able to transfer my photos/videos from my phone's internal memory to the SD card and then delete them off of my phone's internal memory? Can this be done via the phone itself? Is it a relatively easy process?

Damn it. Lol. First we are teased with no shipping info an now we are teased with you having the 64 gig card. Wait hold up. That's my card. I want it back. :D

On a side note I just checked Amazon and my card is being shipped by a company called Ensenada?&!.$&:confused::eek:

Who is this company? Amazon usually uses UPS. I hope they are good. If not I am taking my card back and givin you a 1 gig.

Interested which seller you purchased it from on Amazon. I saw it on there from several different sellers.

I had a bad experience purchasing from Amazon when purchasing a SD card where the photo showed a certain class and I got a different class. This was from a 3rd party seller but fulfilled by Amazon (they had good feedback too). I also received it in just a clear case. No retail packaging. I returned it. I want to make sure it is going to be in retail packaging and not tampered with. Amazon has the cheapest prices so I would like to give it another shot.

This was debated way back when the OG Evo came out, I remember a big discussion about it on Bill's thread. The difference between a class 6 and a class 10 is really minimal but when we had he orginal chat we discussed class 4 and class 6 there was some lag when we did it back then with a class 4 but none at all with a class 6 and a class 10 was a rich man's Micro SD back then. I'd say you'll be fine with a class 6, I'm using a class 6 16gb I still have from when I got the OG Evo and it works flawlessly with no impact on performance.

To hit buy. But I do like how the part of the Sandisk 64 gig card is red and almost matches the kick stand Sort of like it belongs in the EVO. :D
 
$73 for a SanDisk 64gb class 6 without usb card reader
OR
$92 for a SanDisk 64gb class 10 with usb card reader

Could a class 10 card actually cause more problems than the class 6?

Anybody get the SanDisk class 10 64GB SDXC? So far I see everyone getting the class 6 SanDisk 64 GB SDXC. With the SDXC cards, when you reformat the card from exFAT to FAT32 do you lose speed, making it essentially a lower speed class anyways?

Your input is appreciated.
I gotta order this ASAP.

So a class 4 card would not be a bad thing to buy if i'm just storing music and videos on it?
 
Absolutely not. The bottleneck will occur in the handset.

You can have a class 50 card but the final speed is determined by the handsets OS...
 
Pre-warning on the 64gb card...I put that card in my Photon and formatted the card through my phone. Up side was that it works perfectly while in my phone. Down side is that, when I took the card out of my phone and tried to use a microSD>SD adaptor to make some changes, it wouldn't read the card on my computer at all (when I placed that into the card slot).
 
i think i have a class 4 32 gb microsd card in the evo 3D and ive not ever had it give me any issues. i have the same card in the xoom tablet and it too does not have any issues recording video and/or playing it back.

seriously, do not read too much into the speeds of cards. the quality name brand cards on the market today are fast enough to run in handsets.
