Root Cyanogen Mod 7 and Evo 4G are not friends

I am pretty new at having a rooted phone and I have tried exactly two ROMs up till this point: MikG v3.11 and Cyanogen Mod 7. I am willing to believe that user error is at play here but if not, I am seriously unimpressed with CM7. As far as I can tell my native Voicemail is gone, Swype is no longer an option and when I went to add my Google account to the phone it was only allowing for the addition of an Exhange account. I got my Google account linked but in a totally round-a-bout way. CM7 was supposed to be a super stable, very popular ROM and I am somewhat surprised at how not cool I have found it to be. I only wish I could find an easy way to do themes on the MikG ROM because I really like everything else about it.

I believe CM7 is designed to be customized by the end user (running scripts and stuff) so out of the box so to say it might be bland -- i'm no expert. It runs on adw launcher. If you customize the launcher and download a CM7 theme from the market (use CM7 Theme chooser) you can get that thing looking really pretty. It just takes time to get everything running how you want it. Then make a backup once you have it the way you want. There are some roms i believe that are already customized a certain way that use a cm7 base...

EDIT: i believe this would get better responses in the root section.

I have moved this thread to the all things root section.

I was unimpressed with Cm7 as well when I first flashed it. I prefer my ROMS to work "out of the box". I dont want to have to flash GPS fix, gapps, themes, ect for it to look good and work right.

AOSP isnt for everyone, but cm has a very large following. You could give MIUI a try also.

I think that was what it was really, I am sure it is a great ROM but I was spoiled by one that was much more out of the box ready to go. The theme capabilities (ease and sheer number) with CM7 are great. I have a feeling I will be able to get some portion of that with MikG I will just have to work for it, hoping a little less work than getting all of my apps and usual function back with CM7 :D
