Using the Galaxy NEXUS extended battery in the Skyrocket

I found this over at XDA

Galaxy Nexus Extended battery 2100 mah
Galaxy Nexus Extended Battery on Skyrocket? - xda-developers

So I decided to give it a try, (for $25 + tax not a bad deal for an extra 250 mah - and I was just planning on buying a regular spare battery anyway). FYI, you have to get the Verizon version as the GSM version doesn't work.

Well I went on lunch and picked this up.

Charging right now, but it fit into my spare battery charger on my RND dock (with some cramming).

It is easy to get in, but a little difficult getting out. I might take the dock home tonight and work on it with the dremel, but not sure yet. Already had to dremel the actual holder a bit to allow me to dock with a case on.
Pics of charging. Once I get it charged, I'll stick it in the phone (there are pics on the link above showing how it fits in our phone)

These are my results after 2 full cycle charges(this pic was at about 5% battery life)

Currently this is where I am at on this battery (after 3rd full cycle charge) - Still at 15% battery life

How does it fit in the phone? Does it make the cover bulge or anything?

It does make the cover bulge a bit(especially on the left side of the phone when looking at the back)

If you are running a case, it will not be noticable. I have a Diztronic TPU case and I don't notice the bulge at all.

I stopped by the verizon store and picked up one of these for $27.05 today. I enjoyed the salesperson's reaction when i pulled out a different phone than he expected.

Installed I was able to get all the little attachment points on the battery cover to close except for the one next to the very top left of the battery(looking from the back). It's possible that the case would stretch over time and eventually close completely, but I enjoy tinkering with items and their warranties so I pulled my pocketknife out and trimmed the black plastic just a bit. I didn't trim enough to make the that last attachment point close all the way, but 10 minutes later the cover had stretched and everything fit comfortably.
For those thinking about doing this, I didn't trim much from the battery, so I believe nesto when he says it fitsin an unmodified form. With the trim the bulge is really not visible unless you look carefully at an angle at the reflection of a light source. I can't feel the bulge with my hand

Thanks for the tip! it worked out great

Would love to see some pictures

When re-installing the battery cover, I recommend first seat the bottom, then snap the top, then the left, and then the right. Just work the left side until it starts to strech and like igga mentioned, it will eventyally stretch over time.

Glad it worked out, wait till you get a couple of cycle charges into it and you wll love the battery life.

Stopped at Verizon on my way home and picked it up. At first they were saying it was ringing up full price but I mentioned I believed it was on sale and they then said yes the promotion was running until the end of this month. Fits exactly as described. I have 2 cases a Tpu case which is see through and if looking I can see that the back doesn't perfectly lay flat through it ever so slightly but you wouldn't notice if you weren't looking for it. My Casemate case fit perfect over it, and with that case you would never know since it is thicker and you can't see through it. I do noticed it it a bit heavier but have no problem with that for a longer battery. Looking forward to having 2 batteries headed out if town, especially this one with the longer battery life. Thanks again for the post, I don't root or running a custom rom so don't frequent the xda site so would have never know about this.

Glad it is working out for you. Just don't forget to charge your other battery as well (like I did this weekend)

First day just got the message to charge my battery, been 10 hours using on and off today through 4g lte only to check email, text and internet. Not constantly either I worked 8 hours. I also have juice defender the free app set at the setting it comes with enabled. Why am I not getting the kind of great numbers you both have?

I haven't seen a massive improvement in battery life, just a modest increase. The battery is roughly 15% larger than the stock one, which is in line my observed battery life.
Are you sure the battery was fully charged? When my friend installed a battery that was twice the size of his original (in his Evo) his phone told him the battery was fully charged when it had only actually reached 75%. I think the code needs to adapt to the larger battery. that's just my theory though

This sounds great!! I am going to go the Verizon store after work today. I was wondering though my wife has the galaxy S2 will it work for that phone?

Just got mine in the mail today, and it fit perfectly, without any filing or cutting. I don't use a case, and the only difference that I notice is the weight of the phone. Which that isn't a big deal at all. It's currently charging, so I'm anxious to see the change of battery life I get.
