I was afraid that was the response I would get. It's cumbersome to access, noncustomizable, and extremely limited. It's not quick and barely even settings... :(

I'm also very disappointed in the approx 1 inch of soft key space at the bottom of the screen in some apps. HTC removed the menu button from the permanent soft key lineup and then had to add nearly a half inch of screen to replace it! That was just moronic.

And getting rid of the long press shortcuts, and adding a dedicated recent app button.... Really...

I feel like I am holding Frankenstein's monster. Not because of the looks, but because it's a brilliant piece of technology with baffling power (the hardware is simply amazing in it's performance), but it's been mentally damaged (HTC "Sense" is now just a pun as far as I'm concerned).
 
Don't think I ever got 3G speeds like this on my OG EVO or the 3D!

Question: Will Google Play still have the apps I previously paid for under the previous Google Apps?

well if you of all people didn't have a few gripes about it then you wouldn't be critical critic now would you :D....try setting a shortcut or something like that to get to the settings...don't know if you can, just a suggestion mon freir

on another note though, are there really some settings missing ??? I haven't noticed. I was also surprised there wasn't a menu button like we're used to, but I wouldn't call getting to the new settings cumbersome...it's still same number of steps to get in I think. old way was menu,settings....new way is notification window,settings. not too bad IMO,just have to get used to new way of doing it..

well coming from CM7 on my OG EVO to this stock (even on Icecream Sandwich with Sense 4) I feel cheated too.

soon we will probably have the Cyanogen Mod team release something for us hopefully

Yeah, I gotta live up to the screen name. :p going to see what I can do to make up for some of the gimped features. I highly value efficiency, and having all this horsepower doesn't speed anything up if the most used features are buried or eliminated. If I can't improve this, I may give this to my wife and use her upgrade next year.

I'm not concerned about accessing the general settings menu, I'm concerned about quick settings. As in a customizable list of settings that are displayed with simple on/off switches.

I know this isn't quite the same but what about using some of the settings widgets that you would use the most and putting them on one of your screens?

I was disappointed in the lack of on/off settings too simply from the pull down menu, but I came from MikG's rom and knew I would have to give up some things while developers create their roms to turn this into even more of a beast.
 
the differences in settings and buttons / menu... is just change. i am not saying it is better (i dont know yet). but give it time.. maybe there is a reason and will be more efficient.


it is funny/ interesting.. how many are saying.. how great it is that is is so light..
but when the OG evo was battling it out with the Epic (galaxy S)... many loved how much the OG evo was more heavy. (no, i have not had the opportunity to hold it in my hand yet)
 
So far, I'm very impressed by the speed of the device. Running a speedtest on my OG Evo (over wi-fi) provides me with approx 5.2Mb/s down and 90ms ping. The same test on my EVO LTE gives me a little over 10Mb/s down and 70ms ping. This is using an ASUS RT-N56U router on a 50MB/s connection, so the phones' wireless cards are definitely the bottlenecks here.

The menus are nice and fluid. Apps start quickly. I do miss the "menu" button at the bottom of the phone, but I suspect I'll get used to the on-screen one.

The screen is gorgeous. The battery seems to be _great_ (I have LTE turned off, as it's not available here yet). With moderately heavy use (installing apps, movie data, activating, calling people, watching videos, and litttttle bit of idle time), I've used it for 3.5 hours and I still have 78% remaining. My Evo would be much closer to dying at this point.

I like the kickstand, but I have trouble engaging it-- my fault for biting my nails, I suppose.

The camera looks great, but I can't get good lighting here to really test it out well yet.

They've definitely improved Sense-- the widgets are more varied, everything has a bit more polish to it.

I feel like it's a complete and utter iPhone killer, but unfortunately it won't get the sort of marketing $$$ behind it that the iPhone has.

The WiFi data is interesting because my Evo, a launch day one in 2010 with nothing more than a simple root mod to use the hotspot feature see's 15-20 Mb/s down and about 10-12Mb/s up at work on our corp WiFi. I don't use WiFi at home because I have an Airave.

I'm holding on this for a bit as I travel to Dallas/Atlanta/Chicago/LA/Seattle all the time and need 4G service for my work and they don't have it yet. I am tempted though...very tempted. I might need to stop reading or else:)

I know right? for me it's how light it is coupled with how solid it feels...for it to be so light, it's very solid feeling. weird huh?
 
i hear that this evo can talk and surf web on 3G at the same time.
can some one confirm.

then do speed test on 3G ..

then do a speed test on 3G on a phone call.

With Beats Audio turned off, music sounds great with a pair of headphones.

When Beats Audio (I already owned a pear of Beats headphones) is toggled on, the music is definitely amped up, more "full", louder. It's hard to describe, as I'm not an audiophile, but I guess what I'm saying is music definitely sounds better when Beats Audio is turned on.
